Anyone do a presentation for kids in a classroom?

So my cousin wants me to come and do a Engineering presentation for her afterschool program kids. About 20-30 preschool-middle school kids. I guess I'll go up and talk about engineering, schools, airplanes, etc. But how should I go about doing this? Poster board? Color charts?

I was thinking about a quiz and giving small rewards like stickers, pencils, pins, if they raise their hand and answer correctly, etc. But do the kids cry and get jealous if I don't give them to everyone???

I wish I could remember the awesome presentations when I was little....

hmmmm...help?

Don't use Power Point, I can tell you that.

Use little toys to illustrate your presentation: mini cars, planes, etc.

Oh yea, and get one of those mics that attach to your head so you don't have to use your hands 🙂

remember to talk with them, not above them. Talk about things that kids are interested in... like you said, airplanes, common things that most really dont know that much about.
use lots of props, not just cardboard diagrams. get little trinkets and pens like you said to hand out... but make sure you have enough to give at the end if anyone didnt one.

Put yourself in their place...if you were a 12 year old, what would interest you.. besides girls!! 😉
relax and have fun with them!

I would stay away from charts/graphs etc. In fact, avoid anything where the kids just sit there and listen to you talk. Back when I was a kid (it wasn't that long ago), I never paid attention to charts or slides or anything. I would suggest something interactive and hands on if possible. Those kinds of presentations got me the most interested and excited about engineering. The quiz is a good idea to wrap up with, if you're just giving them small stuff I don't think they'll throw a fit if they don't get anything, but on the other hand it'd probably be nice to give everyone a sticker or something just for being good and paying attention. Sorry I don't have any specific suggestions...
