Anyone crack'n with a 386 - 16mhz puter?

No joke, but I use a 486-sx25 IBM laptop to crack RC5. I think it gets 90kkeys/sec.

I'm wondering if I should even bother with setting up this P-60 to do RC5... at a rate of just 84Kkey/sec, I don't know if it's even worth bothering with..

As to the XT/AT issue.. the XT ran at 4.77 MHz, the AT started at 6 MHz; not sure about the 32bit factor, but the 386sx wasn't really a 32bit processor anyways.. it could read from the memory at 32 bits but could only write back at 16 bits, hence the 386sx was really just a souped-up 16bit processor.

16mhz motorola 68030 chip(I think) , it has yet to finish a block, I shut it down after 4 days. Do I get the board for a crack rack yet? =P.

Yep, you're right, it was an XT (I thought it was a 4.1Mhz, but you could be right about 4.77Mhz as well, since it's late, and my memory isn't what it used to be.. )

Perhaps only some clients require a 32-bit processor? This system seemed to work with the MS-DOS client...

As for the 386sx. It was 32-bit core, but it was meant to be for the cheaper sector of the market at the time, so it was only given a 16-bit bus. The chip is classed as 32-bit.

I remember when I was testing Klinux on an old 486 SX 25 machine with 8MB of memory.

It found the nic, found the pproxy, loaded a couple of 1^*28 blocks and started the cruncher.
Buy the time I went to the bathroom, went out in the warehouse to have a smoke, then talked on the phone for a few minuets, there was still nothing but a curser flashing.

So, thinking the client had froze up, I restarted the client and it showed an R. :Q

The lowest you can go is a 386.
