So we canceled DN since it blows, and they sent us empty boxes to return our receivers. Thats all good, but then in the instructions, it has a guide to detaching the LNB from the dish (on the roof). I laughed reading this as it says "warning, be carefull climbing on your roof".

This is at my parents house, and i told them to say come get the crap if you want it, we will not get on the roof to get your stuff. Anyone else deal with this? Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Yes, we had to do that before we moved. Our dish was just out in the yard though, so no climbing concerns. I thought it was a bit silly as well, especially since we had to dismantle the silly thing.

I bought my LNB so I'm not sending that one back and I'm taking it with me when I move.

There were instructions to remove the LNB, but did they request it to be returned specifically?

If not, I wouldn't bother.

Or, you can call the contractor that installed it for you and see if they'll come back out and take it down. They might charge you tho.

What problems are you having with DN? We've had ours for about 6 months now, and so far the only problems we've had are with the really bad TX storms lately, disturbing the signal...not just rain, but REAALLLLY bad storms.

We had dish and then switched back to DirecTV. I had no problems with Dish except their HD box would NEVER update the program guide. We'd have to reboot, wait5-8 minutes just to get the program guide EVERY DAY. Called them I dont know how many times and they would send us a new box, and then just say, 'thats how it is' which is absolutely crazy. DirecTV's HD box does not have this issue, and so far we're much happier.

yeah, not paying for anything and not going on my roof for their stuff. If the want it they can come out here and get it themselves. Most ridiculous thing i have ever heard of.

But anyways, i called them a few times to see about upgrading to a HD package, to see if they could compete with cables rate/installation. The guy said "no, sorry, we cant do anything." "300$ for installation and $20 more per month for HD." vs. Comcast $5 LESS per month, $100 installation, and 2 HD boxes.

So called them back a few days later, and they pleaded with us to stay, but too late. Crappy customer service lost a 4+ year bill payer. Idiots.

Wow, my Charter HD costs me an extra 7.99 regardless of how many boxes I have. You do have to have the DVR ones though. I guess the regular boxes needed to be upgraded to a HD box, but other than that...

yeap i had the same.

i wanted HD package. i called up to supscribe. they wanted $250 instalation and $300-600 for the reciever. I said thats nuts i will go with Direct TV who had a good deal going on HD equipment.

thing is with Dish network you pay for the stupid equipment AND YOU DON"T KEEP IT! when you cancel you have to send it back.

Yep I did it before. Got the ladder out, cut the wires and put it in the box. Went to cable TV for a while and called Dish back, they came out put in new equipment and ran lines again, this time with a better install. I will never go back to cable, unless Charter is out!

yeah, it was pretty funny seeing them throw offer after offer at us to stay. Yet when we asked them to upgrade they said nothing could be done.

Comcast has been pretty good so far, i didnt know they had non-dvr HD boxes, but they do. So for $65 a month, we get all the HD chanels (no premiums), 1 HDDVR, 1 HD box vs. $70 a month for SD-DVR and 2 SD boxes from dish (same chanel lineup w/ no HD's obviously)

My service is great- what problems did you have with DN? I think a lot of people that have problems with it live in congested areas where there's not a good line of sight to the horizon. Anyway, I think if you have them for less than a year, you have to return the equipment.

You keep saying "we" like you had anything to do with it. It's your parent's house and their account.

Either this place has alot of people with stupid parents so the members here have to take care of all their needs, or alot of young members who like to talk a big game.

That would be due to a problem with the phone line quality on the dialup line it was using. Same deal has dialing into the Internet on a crappy phone connection. Do you have DSL? Some people forget to put a filter on that phone line too.

Exactly. Your parents were too stupid to handle it on their own so they needed you to save them. They sure are lucky.

Man, that sucks that they jacked up the rates for HD installation. I got mine done for free, including two new dishes and 2 recievers (one HD and one SD). When I canceled they also asked for my LNBs, I told them if they want them, they can send somebody, nobody ever showed up, so I removed the dishes and threw them away a couple months ago.

haha nice. Yeah i they wouldn't budge when i wanted to upgrade, yet begged me to stay when i canceled. They lost $800+ a year for nothing.

what are you talking about now loser?

still stuck on the grammar im using, trying to feel intelligent or somthing?

In this instance I used "I" since "I" was the one talking to them on the phone, and the begged "Me" to stay. Does that compute in your little brain now? Or is there some other meaningless grammatical point i missed?

Your parents might have had better luck with customer service if an adult was talking to them. Preferably the one who pays the bill.
