with rig in sig: smooth as silk. using my I9300 with 1.83 Pentium M and 6800 GO ... definately more choppy. hard to say what the limiting factor is.

The 7800 series have H.264 hardware decode support in the latest drivers I think. Today with my 6800NU it's damn slow, but I'll see what happens once I get my 7800GT installed (tomorrow).

"Couldn't open file"
"da_vinci_code-tsr2_1080p.mov" because a bad
public movie atom was found in the movie.

What does this mean?

Smooth as silk with lowly Dell i9200 and ATi MR9700.
I think there is a MS patch to help you nvidia users?

With my 7800GT, Athlon FX53 and 2 GB of RAM, it varies between being smooth...and laggy....if there is an MS patch, is it something that can be gotten through atuo updates, or do I have to search for it?

Link

All of those in that above link work FINE for me....they load my proc though, they don't use my 7800GT....this was also an issue with the 6800's not having an enabled video processor...

I can run that da vinci code trailer in 780 fine...but 1080 is screwy..?

This one was very choppy on my Opteron 170 and 6800GT.. I'm confused because a few days ago, I played some other 1080p Quicktime trailer and it seemed fine.

For those of you guys claiming hardware support with 6xxx and 7xxx series nvidia cards, you did install the Nvidia Purevideo driver right? I believe that's the only way to enable hardware decoding support on those cards. They have a 30 day free trial, but you'll have to purchase it afterwards.

I have the trial installed and it looks fantastic :)

That doesn't do anything for Quicktime, as far as I know.

nVidia's site doesnt mention any formats other than mpg2 and wmv. I would like to know if it works with any other formats, like divx/xvid avi's and such.

It means you need to download the latest version of Quicktime.

The drivers don't mention anything but MPEG enhancements, but I'd be interested to hear about the difference between the cards and especially about H.264 decoding, so make sure you post some results;)

The Purevideo decoder is for MPEG2 decoding in supported applications only.

Well, I installed my 7800GT today. Guess what? I loaded up Da Vinci Code 1080p into Nero ShowTime and the whole thing was almost smooth as butter (just like two seconds worth of a pause during the whole thing) using 81.95 WHQL drivers. But...it could have just been because I rebooted so I'm not jumping to any conclusions just yet.

It says H.264 for this driver: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1116
And I'm using 81.95 WHQL. I assume it's in 81.85 as well since it's later?

Last night I played the 720P version butter smooth on the system in my sig. I just downloaded teh 180p version, and it also played alright on teh system in my sig. There was a LITTLE bit of stuttering, but otherwise it was very watchable. Here is a screenshot I took of the movie playing and task manager measuring the CPU usage. (FX-51 @ FX-53 speeds w/ 2GB RAM on x800XL)
