I see quite a few people bragging about their new abit kt7a with the kt133a chipset, well the asus a7v133 which also uses the kt133a chipset is also available for purchase for $155, the abit kt7a was going for $169 yesterday but went down to $159 today. Since nobody mentioned anything about asus, I think nobody knows it's available.

I've heard that the Epox EP-8KTA3 is even better and I've seen it for around $150.

Umm look again. I see the Abit on top of the Asus.
You Asus lovers must be looking at the results upside down.

Abit over Asus in the THG review?

That's a vague and potentially misleading comment. The Abit KT7A did outperform Asus A7V133 in the SYSMark and game benchmarks but in the total of 9 different tests the Asus actually beat Abit I think 6 times. I don't know how important SPECviewperf crap is to you but overall it was very close. For now Asus has a better reputation from (percieved) lower return merchandise rates than Abit so that may be the deciding factor for some.

I have Abits from the intel Pentium days forward and I love them to death but maybe I'm just lucky to have no problems with 6 of 6 motherboards. I should mention the only Asus I ever tried to build a system with was messed up. USB didn't work and I couldn't get the video to work with any drivers but Windows standard VGA drivers. 16 colors just don't cut it. Now is that luck or what?

As always, buy from a reputable vendor with fair returns policy so you can take the hunk o crap back if you don't like it.

All I have to say is that Abit's website (or shall I say lack thereof) is suck.

What is this motherboards.com crap with absolutely no product info whatsoever???

Try www.abit-usa.com

Also, I tried both the Asus A7V and the Abit KT7-RAID, and I much prefer the Asus. Neither one was able to make all the USB channels work correctly, but this is a limitation of the Via chipset more than anything. Both are about the same speed, and when it comes to motherboard speeds, anyway, I think you're splitting hairs. The PRACTICAL difference between two good motherboards is probably not even noticable.

Both have a strong following, and both companies have made some OUTSTANDING motherboards in the past.

IMHO, just too many incompatabilities w/ Via chipsets
Other than that, I wouldn't mind having a nice new thunderbird :p

Also, I've had plenty of both Abit and Asus MB and prefer either one over any other brand. I do have to lean toward Asus though.

When shopping for a new MB, a few dollars one way or another makes no difference to me.

Shotgun, just because they don't OWN the domain name www.abit.com doesn't mean they don't have a website. Try www.abit.com.tw and you'll see that they have a fairly nice website, that at least gets updated, unlike the US Asus one...Asus' tech support is suck. I own a CUBX and I think it's the last motherboard I'll buy from Asus for awhile...I've recieved no help from them what-so-ever with it's issues...

The quality and speed of the boards are fairly equal, but that's about it.
Slots are another story.
The Asus has 5 PCI, 1 of them shared with AMR.
The Abit has 6 PCI, 1 shared with ISA.
The extra PCI slot is needed by many.
Those features tell the story of who the boards are designed for.
No High End overclockers or power user would dream of using an AMR slot for sound or modem.
But, many of them do have an ISA hardware modem, or other ISA cards.
Any board that leaves off ISA is one I won't touch, and to replace it with AMR is a joke.

For those of you that do not know how to use the net to find stuff, (like Abits site) it is pretty simple. Type in the address bar of your browser, (without quotes) "GO abit", then hit enter. If you had done that, you would have found:
Abit's site!
Also, if you can't do this, then you need to stick with pre-built systems. How do you expect to find all the patches and drivers a system will require if you can't even surf the net?
