Can't you just say what you just said? Or do the contracts say that no matter how bad it is, you must pay the cancellation fee?

wow, such fast response from you guys :)

yes, i think the penalty to break the contract it's $150 :( my gf just got me a new phone from T-mobile , she knew i liked the Ericsson T68. So now i dont want to pay for rest of the ATT contract.

i think there are 3 possibilities now:
1. they let me off the contract withouth penalty!
2. let me downgrade my plan to $19.99 without signing another year contract, i will have to pay $40 for 2 months service.
3. i have to pay for two full month , which is $80 !!

They'll let you downgrade if worst comes to worst.. or they should. I know Cingular does. Still another 3 months left on my contract before I switch out.

could be a problem with your phone and not their service, i had some problems and complained to them about it, they sent me a new phone and everything was working ok after that

If you only have 2 more months with ATT, it might be cheaper just to pay the monthly service fee until the contract ends rather than coughing up $150.

1. Not gonna happen. That is the point of a contract - you agree to service for one year, not 10 months and whenever you feel like it.
2. Possible. I don't know how AT&T works. Some companies will allow you to switch plans. Others (like the hellish nightmare that Sprint PCS is) will not let you switch at all without renewing a year contract, and even then they usually screw it up.
3. $80 < $150.

I missed the ATT letting people out w/o penalty deal, because i didn't want to pay the high phone price at t-mobile back then. now tmobile has very good phone price and plan.

i understand $80 is less than $150, but still too expensive for a poor student like me, hehe, besides, i dont want to pay a dime for the horrible ATT service. All the friends i know have quality problem with ATT, so it's just not me.

can i tell them i am moving, so i want to cancell my phone?? because i am going to move back to my university once the school start.... will they accept that excuse?? hmm...
