neuralfx: I don't comment on a game unless I have had first hand experience with the title. It seems rather silly to make statements such as yours about a game when you haven't played it.
It's a low priced FPS. I don't expect the latest and greatest technology from a game that costs $20 - $30 less than most recently released games. I took it for what it is and I found it to be enjoyable.
I've been a fan of the Die Hard movies since the original hit theaters in '88.
It's a shooter, I expect to have to put away a lot of bad guys. I'd really hate to imagine what the final body count was after I finished other games in this genre, like Medal Of Honor, Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Kingpin, etc.
My first hand experience with the game:
The game does an excellent job of following the original movie storyline along with some new content that fits in very nicely. Anyone that hasn't seen the movie wouldn't understand quite a bit of the game content. Stopping to think "what did McClane do in the movie at this point?" often helps.
It uses the LithTech engine, so Q3 visuals shouldn't be expected. The visual quality is nice however, and the weapon models and reloading animations are smooth and detailed. The developers did a good job recreating the Nakatomi Plaza as seen in the movie.
The AI is pretty good for the most part. Enemies often lean around corners and take cover behind objects instead of charging straight at you.
The voice acting ranges from very good to fair. The only member of the original cast to do voice-overs is Reginald Vel Johnson (Officer Powell). The voice acting for McClane usually sounds very much like Bruce Willis while the voice used for Hans isn't the best.
It's a very stable game. I completed the game without a single crash. There are some clipping and collision detection issues which will hopefully be addressed in an upcoming patch, but nothing major.
The dynamic music is excellent and sounds a lot like the original film score. Sound effects are well done with all weapons sounding quite realistic.
Stamina and morale do affect the gameplay. The player breathes heavily and tires when running (although Bruce could definitely outrun the virtual McClane without contest). I noticed that the enemies were more aggressive in their methods when player morale was low.
There are a couple of things that could use improvement. There needs to be an option for corpse duration as they currently disappear way too quickly. All SWAT members should be able to acknowledge McClane's identity when his badge is shown.
I think most Die Hard fans that would like to explore a virtual Nakatomi Plaza should enjoy the game.
