Anyone been to vegas?

I've driven through both Las Vegas, NV and Las Vegas, NM several times and the one in New Mexico is quite a bit nicer than the one in Nevada. I've only spent one night in each and, again, the hotel in New Mexico was nicer than the Motel 6 in Nevada.

Dining options better in New Mexico, what with Blake's Lotaburger and all.

Also, the restored Harvey House is now open, I believe.

I'm glad I went and got to experience the ridiculous buffets there before this Coronavirus. Vegas buffets won't be the same for very long time.

I was there last year and it was ok. If you stay with many hotels, be aware of the surcharge on top of your hotel cost and taxes. Plus you can't park for free at many hotels' parking lots now. And the buffet is not as cheap as it used to be.

Holly smoke, this threat is 8 years old.

The one time I was there I stayed in the Youth Hostel. Spent a whole $35 on gambling over the several days I was there.

I am such a high-roller.

Stayed one time off the strip. Overall meh.

Some good shows to see - one really stood out as good to me.

Food overall was nothing to call home about. I'd rather get a nice burger off the strip than overpay for on the strip.

I love Vegas. I've only been there twice and last time I went was like 7 years ago but it is such a blast. Out of my two trips I've only gambled with $50 in roulette and lost it all. I don't really like gambling but love the vibe in the casinos. Never been to a buffet there and didn't really have any interest, but loved the restaurants there.

Gordon Ramsay's Steak is probably the best restaurant experience I've ever had.

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone goes to Vegas and eats at a buffet. There are so many great restaurants in Las Vegas that I would rather try. Unless we are talking about breakfast I will never eat at a buffet anywhere.

Yay necro. Let's see, around 2012 give or take a friend got married in Vegas. Stayed at the Tropicana because it was just about finished getting remodeled. Got a new room at their old (shitty) room rates. Remember spending time at Aria and Cosmopolitan that weekend too. Man that was a while ago.

Because that was on my bucket list. Vegas and buffets. I have no idea why you think you're above buffet food. Vegas have great restaurants but also great buffets. I satisfied my Vegas buffet curiosity. Lot of places have great restaurants but few places in the world have the ridiculous buffets like Vegas. But with Covid, crazy Vegas buffet is probably history so I'm glad I got to experience it in full glory before it went away.

TBH I've never really found the food in Vegas to be all that good for the high prices they charge.

Vegas buffets are not like buffets I've seen anywhere else, both in terms of the vast array of food options and price charged. It's a decent option for novelty alone

Because they are (were) really cheap! (I assume the gambling profits subsidises the food?) Granted, I remember being apprehensive about the hygiene issue, but no bad consequences ensued.

When I was last there like 6 years ago, the buffets were like $45-$50 depending where you are. I'd much rather spend that on a meal at a regular restaurant, which is why they didn't interest me at all.

I'm past the point when I eat where I just want to get as stuffed as possible too. Or where I want to get as much food for my money as possible. That is what I always heard people talking about the buffets how much they ate. Well good for you. I prefer to go to a nice restaurant where my portion size doesn't mean I take home a second meal in a doggy bag. I prefer to be able to clear my plate after sharing an appetizer with my wife and then have room for desert.

Well I'm talking, um...30 years ago, I guess. (So long ago that I got asked to prove my age by casino staff repeatedly. Nobody 'cards' me these days, sigh)

Because I'm always disappointed in them when I've tried them. The only exception is breakfast/brunch buffets at certain places. And yeah, they're probably a thing of the past at least until we have a vaccine for Covid anyway.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

We have friend (s) in Vegas we used to visit. We liked the shows, and old downtown is probably the most fun for old school gambling. Small casinos just a walk away, the Fremont Street experience was new. Down on the strip it is a hell of a hike between casinos.

I did the buffet at the Borgata in Atlantic City during it's prime. So overrated.

Not since I was a kid and too young to drink or even go to the adult shows. My folks took us to some family friendly shows. I have never gambled in a professional setting (just some friendly poker games with the guys). I don't feel the pull of Vegas or casinos in general. I have a feeling I'd find cruise ships creepy. And the worst thing is that if I did, it might start to feel claustrophobic.

Edit: I'm bookmarking this thread, though, in case I go to Vegas one day. Lots of good tips here.

I went a couple years ago for two nights with two friends of mine. I flew there from San Diego (about an hour flight), we stayed at the Venetian in a nice suite and split the cost three ways. We had two queen beds and a sofa sleeper. Cost me less than $1500 for the entire trip and I brought $300 to gamble with (lost it all of course). We ate out both nights at very nice restaurants, had breakfast in the casino and still it didn't go over the $1500. Not sure how you could buy a boat or install a pool for that kind of money.
I had an obsession about sailboats, sailing the oceans until I got a job on the docks working on them. I saw first hand the boats and the people who bought them (and sold them). It was disillusioning. It wasn't a good experience for someone who wanted to actually sail them. After a couple of years of that I happened to go to a boat show as part of my work and had a look at a Yamaha. That thing struck me as infinitely superior in terms of the aesthetics of construction compared to what I had been seeing. I had the impression that it wasn't particularly more expensive either. I was soon off the docks and into other things.

Pools, well, I suppose they can be nice at times. An expense to build and then you have to keep them up. That wouldn't be as expensive as keeping up a boat, though! Boats have docking fees and they have to be kept up.

I went to Vegas around this time last year and it was my first time. Don't really have a desire to go back, but the wife wants to go and catch a Raiders game there some time in the future. That would be pretty fun I think.

I grew up on a lake in upstate NY and have been sailing on and off my entire life. It is something I enjoy but I have no desire to ever own a boat. Doesn't help that my wife gets seasick on the ocean either.

My mom lived on a 43' sailboat for 10 years. She and her husband sailed it down to South America and back and they had plans to sail it across the Atlantic but my mom injured her back and that pretty much ended that dream.
