Guys,

I think in a few weeks i am planning on going to Munich and Barcelona. I am going to Munich mainly because of the BMW museum, and also because i have never been. Barcelona seems more like a cultural city, and looks awesome as well.

I am probably going to stay in a hostel. I am not sure how the transit works in these cities, Anyone have an idea ? What are good places to go to, see, eat etc.

Thanks !

I have been to Munich and the BMW plant etc. Munich is a large European city I drove around and it was a pain, so be prepared for that. If you want public transit there was panty of it there. I must say I didn't fall in love with the city even the BMW museum. .
It just seemed crowded to me but I did like my hotel it was a small boutique hotel close to the centre.
I took one of these city tours where you go on a bus and they show you around and it took me to the castle. German chicks are ugly another letdown.

I stayed a couple of nights in Barcelona on business back in 2005. It seemed like an awesome city but unfortunately I didn't get to see much of it. I hope to go back one day.

Went to Oktoberfest in Munich this past September. Sadly, most of our trip was spent in an alcohol induced blur with most of our time spent in the Bier-tents.

We stayed at a bed-and-breakfast 30 mins out of Munich. Was like 50 euros a night compared to 100 euros in the city. We used their public transportation via their awesome train network. You could get a day-pass for up to 4-5 people for like 15 Euros.

The hostels are running about $30 with breakfast included and wifi. They look more geared towards younger people, and nice way to meet people

Been to both cities. Munich quite frequently.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the BMW museum ain't all that. You'd be better off going to Stuttgart and seeing the Porsche and Mercedes museums.

As for BMW in Munich, you'd be better off doing a plant tour. Otherwise, go to Munich and enjoy the beer or consider taking a train somewhere south to visit one of King Luwig's castles or go hike a mountain. As a city, Munich is not my favorite. But Bavaria is gorgeous.

Barcelona is a polar opposite to Munich. A late night city full of energy. Much poorer too. People let themselves go wild. If you want a real treat, take the boat over to Ibiza for a few nights.

Barcelona is far from a cultural city. It's just a large, gray, dingy place. All concrete. You would be much better to get to the smaller towns.

Thanks for your input on the musuem. I have heard that too. I might try to make it over to the plant instead...but i bet stuttgart is far from munich

Forget about driving in both cities - walk or use public transportation.

Nice night life in both cities - check it out.

Both cities have a very idyllic countryside close. Consider a trip.

Averrage people in both cities are quite poor at English. If you need help or directions, try and ask someone in business clothes. They often speak OK English.

Or ask in German/Spanish if you speak it 🙂

Agree on the public transport part. BUT it's worth it to go over to SIXT Rental Car and rent a BMW and wind it out on the Autobahn.

As for English speakers in Munich...most Germans, especially Bavarians, speak nearly conversationally fluent English. No worries. Can't say the same about people in Barcelona.

Munich to Stuttgart is 2:19 by ICE train.

One fun idea might be to take the S-Bahn up to Erding and do the Erdinger Brewery Tour. The cost is 10 EUR. After a 45-minute tour, you have about 2 hours of unlimited beer drinking. Lots of fun!
