I've been looking to buy a car recently and for the most part I've just been looking on craigslist. I'm not really wanting to spend more than 7-8 grand so I was thinking about checking out a police auction. Google only leads me to a crap heap of auction websites. Are any of these sites any good? Does anyone know any good auctions coming up in the Los Angeles area? Thanks guys.

those sites are bullshit. They have you pay fees only to tell you where the auction is (which is public record).

Not all auctions allow non-dealers, and you will need to have something as good as cash usually at point of sale. You don't get much inspection period before the sale and once you win there is usually no recourse.

Good to know...thanks.

if a car ends up at a police auction, i cant imagine it's previous owner having responsible driving and proper maintenance at the top of his/her priorities

many of these cars are torn apart by the cops, and can only be questionable at best. the used lots that deal a mishmash of land rovers, merc g wagons, maybe a bentley or porsche et cetera are especially likely to be drug cars, and not in good health.

op, what kind of car suits what you want or need? i'm sure you could get something solid for your price range.

I've had two cars impounded then later sold at auction (one was my friends, really). Anyway, I see them around town every once and a while they seem to be serving their new owners well.

I really have my eyes on a Honda Accord (98 models and up). I've already browsed craigslist and the local dealers...just wondered what kind of deals I could get at one of the auctions.
