Anyone annoyed by the Phone app in Kitkat yet?

I wasn't expecting much when updating my N4 last night. Jelly Bean works fine for me and I knew Kitkat would only offer very minor (if any) improvement for my usage anyway. Well, it was interesting the first 5 mins exploring what's new, but I opened up the phone app, it all went south real quick. Why did they have to mess with my contact list?! I had phone contact perfectly synced with google contact but now it's not in sync anymore. It displays contacts I've deleted or moved to other category ...worse yet, the default contact display some random contacts instead of my A-Z contact list.

Long story short, very disappointed with Kitkat, I might just rollback or switch to iOS if the phone app don't get fixed soon.

Its the phone dialer app you are disappointed with not KitKat. What you explained there has nothing to do directly with changes made to the OS.

Anyway I dislike it also.

LOL switch to iOS, like you wouldn't have to get use to how stuff is done there either.

There are dialer apps in the play store. You might give Contacts+ a shot.

This is Android, there are options, you should never have to settle. Just stop whining and do something about it instead.

I dislike that from the Phone/Dialer App, you can't jump into the People app. My People contact has a few duplicates that doesn't show up in Gmail/Contacts and it's likely because
A. Hangouts
B. Google+
C. Contact I added
One of my contacts has (3) entries, annoying but it's because their G+ profile has a different email than their personal.

With that said, i really don't go into the contact list. From the dialer, i type the contacts few letters of their name and it'll pop up.

Is it possible that your setting just got reset because of the update to 4.4? Maybe you need to redefine what contacts source to show (Google account/phone/sim card, groups, hidden, etc).

No, not possible. My People App still displays the correct contact list I want to sync with. But there is no account option to choose from in the new Phone app.

So odd you're having this problem and it hasn't popped up as issue on reddit /r/android or /r/nexus4 - i'm not sure what's going on.
Just to be clear ..
Tap Phone > It should have the Google Search on top > Favorite/Most Contact > All contacts

What's showing on your favorites/most contacted, is it correct?
When you click All contacts , is this where it's out of whack?

I'm learning to like it. Favorites are easy to change via Starred in Android flag which is very nice... easy to change. The phone now only shows people /w phone #s but the people app shows all. That is helpful.

It took a bit to get used it, but I'm starting to like it.

Lots of alternative dialers in the Play Store. I don't even used the stock Phone app in Android ever. I've always either used an alternative (like Dialer One back in Gingerbread) or a modified one (like in Cyanogenmod) because I want stuff like auto-complete.

There is "All Contacts". But where it gets "All contacts" from? I don't have control of the sync source. A portion of contact list is out of whack while most others are fine. If there is an option to choose the account to sync from, it would have fix the issue.

It's all contacts from google contacts. Your discrepancy is prob /w people who don't have a phone #? That is the one main difference. It will not list people without a phone # in the dialer.

Yep. Dialer only pulls contacts with phone numbers.
Hangouts will pull from People.app and Gmail Contacts.

The problem is that it's pulling all the contacts with a phone number, so it's showing more contacts than I want. I only want the list from "My Contacts" in my google contact.

I don't think I'm going to update to 4.4. Although the dialer seems to be the main issue. Oh well. Happy with 4.3. I'll just have to figure out how to get the update prompt out of my notification shade.

Phone apps seems to be working very nicely for me.

It shows my most frequently or recently used contacts. I tap All Contacts and everything there is in alphabetical order. And it seems to have all my contacts there, no more, no less. All seems to be in order and sync for me.

Not sure i follow then. What else is showing?
Phone/Dialer > All Contacts show the same contacts as
Gmail Web Interface > Change to Contacts > My Contacts

You must not have any contact with a phone number in contact list other than "My Contacts". Otherwise, the new Phone app will display it.

Okay, looks like the discussion has settled.

Now how do I rollback to 4.3? I can't live with a crippled phone app.

One of the main reasons I switched back to iOS was because Android kept messing around and syncing my contact list.

If this update fudges up how my contacts are synced I won't be upgrading. How many people are having this issue?

Google can do whatever it wants with Phone app, but at least gives us the option to sync with the contact list we want to sync with.

Its frustrating that no one else in this discussion actually understands your problem.

I do, and I sympathise and its driving me nuts that there is little discussion about this on the net. And solutions like 'install another dialer' are just as unhelpful, because there are some nice features about the new android dialer.

Given there is a search option up the top of dialer that searches all contacts by default, I don't see why there is not the option to change the contacts button from "all contacts" to "MY contacts".
(and for those that don't get it- maybe you don't manage your google contacts the way google first encouraged us to do, i.e. label regular contacts as 'my contacts')

I can't say that I'm understanding the problem either. My contacts have been syncing just fine since Froyo all the way to KitKat. Perhaps you need to look at how you've got your contacts setup in Google.
