My description is vague, but this is what I recall:

Several beings that resemble the zombie like characters from I Am Legend
Creatures appear to be progressing from birth to death with the creatures carrying a dead creature
Setting of the scene appears to be in a hell-like environment

I was told this was a famous painting, but I have not been able to ever find any information on it. I saw it on display in Chicago approximately 5 years ago.

Any ideas?

Is it this? If so, it's called Mona Lisa.

God, you're so fucking dumb.

Sarcasm eludes you I see.

OP, it's sounds like a picture depicting "Dante’s Inferno" I kind of remember one like you describe associated with "Dante's Inferno" but I couldn't tell you the name.

Maybe one of the paintings by Hieronymus Bosch?

The examples I looked at on google images have too much color.

Unfortunately I don't know many more details and when I saw the artwork on display it was in a private collection. However, I was told that from time to time the owner put it on loan so it would travel to different displays.

This sounds like something I saw in Art History II, but I cant remember the name.
Amazing how much of that shit left my memory IMMEDIATELY upon leaving the class.

I'm gonna throw out another guess here, I havn't seen I Am Legend.
H.R. Giger, he's made alot of freaky hellish looking artwork.
