I went to an inner city high school, had a few excellent teachers who really did change students whole way of thinking. Sounds corny but for 1 it was like the movie Dangerous Minds or that knock off version with Hillary Swank. The majority of the teachers weren't fit to be teachers though, I questioned if a few even had their credentials. My 12th grade science teacher said you could get AIDS from drinking after a person with it or sitting on a toilet they had been on. And this wasn't even the most retarded thing she said.

My English teacher that went out of her way to help as many students as she could is an example of how all it takes is some patient and hard work and a decent number of the kids can be brought around. It's not easy so I see why a lot of teachers bail after a week or 2. But it has to more rewarding to see the turn around. My school was about 80% gang members.

I know there are a few members who are teachers, or whose wives are teachers, and was wondering what teaching is like in the inner city schools. You hear the typical bad story about guns, knives, drugs, and violent kids, but was wondering if there was more(or less) to it than that.

Pretty much. Being a teacher there is a waste of time and effort. It's like trying to teach a rock math.

Why spend years of your life spinning in circles accomplishing nothing.
