anybody working/studying in the telecommunications field?

Im working on a Bachelors in Telecom Mgmt....got 1.5 years left. Waht do you foresee for the future of telecom? Will it be out of the slump by the time I graduate?

I believe you are in a good field with tons of oppurtunity when you graduate. Broadband is expanding,VoIP is becoming a mainstay,and video conferencing will be mainstream as soon as the FDDI(or better) is installed throughout,including to your home. I worked for Nortel in telephony in the late 70's and early 80's and that was all digital communications. Nortel is the second largest telecom company in North America,and I am sure they would be interested in you when you graduate.

I hope there are plenty of oppurtunities but all these layoffs are killing the spirit within. My friend's uncle got fired from lucent a couple of weeks ago from a $60,000 job. The layoffs are hitting closer to home
