This has worked in the past for games such as UT2K4 and Counterstrike: Source, so I wondered if we could get some of you kind people to set up a server for Anandtech users.

If anyone is interested, let's set something up, and we'll post an IP here. We'll also set up some times to get some players together, and have at it.

I went to 5.1 Omega's for ATI and it worked after crashes with older drivers

Anandtech-only BF2 demo server wouldn't it need a password so non Anandtech people wouldn't join in ?

Don't think so. Haven't had much interest. This might have to be something that will wait until the full version is released.

ya, looked a lil pricy, but id love to play with at least fewer retards, ive got 6m down up 600k up, do you guys think i could host? Its speakeasy gamers special if any of you are fimalir with that. id love to host but droping a few hundred on renting a server is a little above my gaming bugted. lets think out loud, id could chip in if others could, or what option do we have?

maybe we could run a bunch of servers on 512kb/s up cable connections, and have certain machines for voip.... you would thinkyou could get 10peeps on 512Kb/s up connection, but maybe their netcode is so messed up currently that you could only get 8 on... don't know

anybody have a decent amount of bandwidth to offer? like 1.5+Mb/s?

You guys are off on about an order of magnitude for bandwidth needs. I run the 2 servers over at Arsclan.net and just yesterday our 32P server did 38GB of bandwidth, 30 of that being upload. With 32P on we are pushing 400-600KB up, depending on load (aircraft are really bad for bandwidth). You are not going to be able to run one with more than 6 or so people on a 512K connection and not hit bandwidth lag. Sorry to break this to you, but unless you have a machine in a datacenter or on some kind of backbone you arent going to be able to host a server with any type of people so that it would be a fun game. Feel free to join us on our servers though, 100% asshat free :p Just search for arsclan.

thanks for the invite, but i stated 8-10 peeps, so i guess i am not too far off. 600KB/s is quite a bit for a 32p server. with bf1942 DC we could get 13 on a 512K with good pings...wonder why this one needs so much more...

if anybody want a small practice server just type bf2.sytes.net into the ip address box. it won't hold many peeps but is nice for you and a couple of friends to figure out how things work :)
