anybody watching the string theory presentation on pbs?

i saw some of it when it first aired (last year i think). i keep trying to watch it on their site, but i keep getting distracted part way through, so ive never seen the whole thing.

Ive got it on the computer. havent watched it yet. Im a science freak, but Im not sure if i would understand string theory.

its pretty good. i wish i could take a class with brian greene; he's a fantastic lecturer. but the stuff he teaches is way above my head

I really enjoy that kind of stuff, but I know that I could never have parlayed it into a career since my aspirations just wouldn't fit in with "mathematician" or "physicist"...not to mention that my mental capacity probably isn't quite that good. Watched it last year when it aired...and then watched a few eps in QT just to make sure I understood everything.

sad part is I bought books that taught you the basics of this early in high school...what happened to me since then, lol.

it's by nova.

Very interesting. My head exploded around part 10 or so. (I saw it streamed on-line like a year ago and I think it was that many episodes, but what do I know. My head exploded.)

The Elegant Universe is a really good book to read for learning about String Theory. I bought the book on a whim when I originally intented to buy Stephen Hawking's latest book - but it seemed boring when I read it at the book store for an hour.

Anyway.. The Elegant Universe explains things very easy to understand - and actually very entertaining to read. It gets tough at the end, though.. but I reread the tough parts twice and things make a lot of sense to me now. It's very impressive to professors to understand the basic premises behind String Theory.

I saw the last 20 min. of it one day and posted here about it... then someone posted the link to download the Quicktime videos, so I got them and watched it. Then I bought the DVD, then I bought the book... and read it, then I bought his other book (Fabric of the Cosmos) and read it...

That one episode of Nova basically got me started in Cosmology. Now I have read ~6 books on string theory and cosmology. It is my favoritie topic now. 🙂

The DVD is PBS.org for like $20. I have watched it like 4 times. I wish I could get his books on tape, because the way he explains stuff, just rocks.
