Illinois is pretty fun. Summer weather is humid, but the people are prett nice and you can usually find things to do if you look hard enough.

God damn this is getting frustrating.

We're trying to buy a house outside of Peoria school districts and the freaking houses are sold before they even hit the major MLS listing services.

I'm out of state and any home that is remotely desireable and reasonably priced is sold in under 24 hours. I've had 5 places that I've tried to set up showings of fall through because an offer went through in a day on the market.

I was a native Chicagoan, left there 2 years ago to move to Seattle.

There's no good pizza in Washington State, and I miss Mr. Beef. :(

Edit: Coming back to chitown to visit at the end of next week. who wants to go for some Lou Malnati's?

Are you not using a local realtor? I would think one would be able to help you, but I've never bought a house remotely..

I am using a local realtor. She can't even get out to pre-view the things before they sell. She trys to get out to pre-view places for us before we make the drive over. They have offers on them the after the first showing they have.

My parents live in the burbs (I grew up there). Not a bad place to live. I prefer the college town atmosphere, though.

Mr. Beef has the best beef sandwiches ever. Thankfully they have one in Orland Park which is not far from where I live. And my grandparents live in Orland so whenever I go there I get free beef!

Chicago and the surrounding burbs were a great place to grow up. Best food, best music, head into the city to catch a Cubs game or a Bears game. Lakefront summers. Can't beat it.

I grew up downstate and now live in Chicago. It has its pros and cons (winter being a big one), but on the whole I like living in IL

Our food does indeed rule.

Southern Illinois is very nice, Chicago is fun. Everything in between is a lot like Iowa/Indiana/Ohio/wall board.

southern illinois is the armpit of america.

Sorry, that title has already been graciously awarded to New Jersey :D

new jersey is the asshole of america, southern illinois is the armpit :)

likely one of the most true stereotypes out there
i've had 5 clients from jersey...all 5 of them were the biggestt asshole clients EVER
if i ever get another inquiry from a jersey-an, i will definately test their attitude before agreeing to work with them

unless you've had all types of pizza over the world, please shut up.

IL is ok.. but too flat for my taste.

Traffic fvcking blows

I like the suburbs where traffic isn't as offensive.

Chicago is awesome.

As far as the traffic is concerned, it's pretty well-connected via the CTA/Amtrak/etc. so you'd be a fool if you're taking anything else.
And while the de jour Chicago Pizza is the Thick Deep-dish, there is a lesser-known variant of Chicago Thin Crist where the crust is crunchier as well.

As far as the rest of IL . . . well, at least it's not Iowa/Indiana/Ohio. ;)

I live in NYC, but I'm currently traveling to Chicago every week for a project. Nice town, a lot less frantic than NYC.

that being said, the Pizza and dogs rock. I think I'll stop by Portillos for lunch and get a deep dish from Gino's East for dinner.

Why do the dogs rock in in Illinois ?

Not for me. NY pizza was way better.
