Do we have a page setup for this yet? I'm interested in trying it out on my main machine to help out the new team. I'll keep SETI going on all of my other comp's, but I would like to try this out considering the recent SETI problems.

Is there a CLI? From looking at the website it doesn't really look like it. In extension, is there a SETI Driver like program?
 
I think a few threads down is one from narzy re:Folding@Home. It references the GUI but somewhere in there (maybe inguyen's sig?) is some help on doing the CLI (which I did earlier).

Haven't seen much else on a SetiDriver-like program. I haven't been able to do much in the way of benchmarking yet.
 
There is a CLI, check the Download page and look for the "Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP "No-nonsense" text-only console" and i seem to remember you run

fah2console -config

to set it up, make sure you've checked at bottom of download page to make sure no1 else is using your name, and enter team number 198

Then run it without the -config to get it to work

Don't know about how to hide it or run it like SetiDriver, hopefully someone else will give this info!

SetiDriver does a few things:

1) Caches work units (which I understand you cannot do with F@H)
2) Hides the command prompt window
3) Gives updates to progress in bar graph
4) Allows for easy setup on a multi processor machine.

There may be other things but those are the 4 major things it does for me.

How long does it take to get past this step? Mine has been stuck here for a couple minutes.
 
Once it's reached that point, it has begun to do a work unit. Eventually, depending on the complexity of the unit, it will start saying things like this, with a good several-minute interval between each update...

Did you start it with the -config option. If not from what I have read it will not get credit for you or the TeAm.

Each work unit has a different amount of complexity, and with greater complexity (and thus greater length of time to complete on your computer) comes a greater score for that unit.
 
There's no caching ability available for F@H because new WUs are generated from those being returned... Thus there's a time limit on the return. There have been discussions on how to deal with this, with suggestions including having longer WUs, but getting more credit for them when completed.

And Twinhead - there's no "Setidriver-like" program for Linux but the closest to one is JSetidoor, a java-based caching program like Setiqueue. Unfortunately, most people who cache with linux either create their own little scripts and/or put a windoze box up with Setiqueue somewhere and/or point to a public Setiqueue.

heh...better not! Too darn close! 🙂

I'm just testing one WU for F@H and once the MTR is over, probably move a few machines over.
