I picked up a nice headset/microphone combo, and signed up. Called my grandparents and parents . . . it works ok, but there is a slight delay, and the quality seems to dip from cell-phone to can-and-string periodically. Dialpad had sole ownership of my dial-up connection, so I think it should have had plenty of bandwidth.

Any tips or tricks to improve performance?

i think the problem with dialpad is that it's still half-duplex. ie if you're talking, the other person can't be talking. at least that seems to be my main problem (talking simultaneously). anyone know a way to kick in full duplex and make it like a phone? the delay is natural, and expected.

Are you using a mic and speakers? If so invest in a cheap set of headphones w/ a built in mic. That should solve your problem, that or turn down your mic sensitivity so that it isn't picking up te sound from your speakers.

yes, for me using dialpad on 56k is pretty crappy.
the first few minutes of talking seem to go ok........then it starts lagging, like i say something and 10 seconds later the person responds. lol
