Anybody try the dime trick with the Megahalems?

My Megatron is not giving me great temps. I'm not going to be able to do a 24/7 4GHz without something better. I note that TR improved its TRUE by bringing out the VX - essentially a TRUE with a central pressure augmenting device.

One could put a dime or a penny on top of a Mega's heat transfer block - under the pressure bar - to increase the contact pressure. I'm concerned, though, that the bar might bend.

One could also put washers around the pegs. Would need calipers to make sure the washers were exactly the same thickness. That would replicate the pressure pattern in an unmodified Megratron.

Anybody tried either approach?
 
first off, more pressure on a flat ihs, with a flat sink will only yield you so far, because you have something called corners to mess up required pressure.

Now to my knowledge i believe all air sinks are flat and not bowed.
So adding more pressure to an already calibrated mounting system, probably wont net u as much of a performance benfit as a TRUE did.
(however i could be wrong, best thing to do is try it out yourself.)
 
I just realized I have some sheet copper in the basement. I can take the pressure bar off, cut some copper and remount the thing with a slight increase in thickness, then compare temps using the same TIM installation.

Not true, some are bowed. And screw the corners, as long as you get good contact over the majority of the IHS you're all good. The Intel IHS's these days have more ups and downs than a Kardashian. 😀
