Think I'm going to see how Rift is now, only played it for a week or so on trial account about 4 months ago, seemed ok but did not take it too seriously due to TOR coming out ,however been disappointed with "The Old Republic" so going give RIFT some seriously playing time,I've a level 15 cleric from my trial account.

So how are the new improvements/content they have made?

I stopped playing it a few months ago but still subscribe to maybe play a little, two 40's, a 30's and a 20's char. I think cleric was my least favorite class.

I did check in a week ago and didn't see many changes in the last few months. They are adding some things for making group finding easier.

I notice they now have free 7 days server transfer, don't think that's an issue since I was on a popular EU server.

I probably make another alt with different class at some point,my cleric seemed ok on soloing.

I played it for a few months when it came out and then quit. Not because it was a bad game. I thought it was a good MMO. I'm just completely burned out on MMOs now. They do not interest me as they once did.

I got a good deal on special edition version for £6.95 inc free delivery with free 8GB USB stick, you get 40 days free gameplay and xp bonus item,I should say I also changed my password so get the 3 days extra free playing offer, see below

Nevertheless, if you own the RIFT game, you will be granted three (3) days of complimentary RIFT game time once you update your password and security questions.

Additionally, once you update your account and set a new password, your account will be granted a Moneybags’ Purse, which increases your looted coin by 10%, even if you have not yet purchased RIFT.

Please log in to https://rift.trionworlds.com (and we recommend that you copy and paste this link into your browser to access the site) to update your password, security questions and Authenticator.

I know what you mean on being burned out however I just take my time in MMORPGs ,days I play then days I don't,end of the day its down to if you enjoy playing it not how often.

Last time I played it was on my very old PC(4870 card with AMD 3800+ x2 CPU),should be more enjoyable now with my recently built overclocked 2500k,560Ti 2GB card,8GB ram with SSD.

After 4 level 50's... I gave up a while ago. In fact, I think I pretty much quit a good 2 months before my initial 6-month sub expired. And I wasn't even TRYING to powerlevel or anything.

I had some free time due to their system being hacked, and I believe anybody can redeem that by just logging into their website. I believe it was 4 days free?

Anyways. Game is the same as always. However, the game seems really dead to me. Nobody in the main towns anymore on my server, and I actually make a comment to myself "Ooo look another player" when I do happen to run by them in the wild.

They need to seriously consider merging servers. But I guess in a highly instanced game like Rift, I suppose merging is pointless anyhow.

You can instance PVP, instance dungeons by a single button click now, so whats the point of even running around anymore? MMOs are so lame these days. It's "click a button to instantly get into a dungeon with 4 other players." They should just call it them fantasy co-op dungeon grinder.

(this rant it not RIFT per see, as I liked the concept of running around with other players shutting down rifts and doing zone/server events, but unfortunately rift has incorporated all the crybaby crap into their game)

So in other words. If you like crybaby crap, I give Rift a thumbs up! If you want an MMO, thumbs down.

I consider myself fairly experienced in MMORPG,played virtually all the well known ones and even some lesser unknown ones, anyway think its worth a try considering its not going to cost me much.
I've Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning(RPG) to play next month when it comes out and ME3 month after so should be busy few months of gaming.

I'm also keeping my eye on the new MMORPGs coming out down the road ie Firefall,Planetside 2.
Firefall looks very interesting.

I'm still liking Rift. I just have one warrior character on Wolfsbane. The 10 and 20 man T1 raid grinding is really getting to me at the moment, as I'm currently fully T1 raid geared and even have one piece of T2 raid gear. We lost a lot of guild members to TOR, we are trying to fill our ranks back in and gear up new members to get back into Hammerknell content. The Ember Isle expansion gives well geared players something to do while Trion works on new content, and the 10 man T2 raid Rise of the Phoenix is welcome for T1 raid geared players as well. Except for T2 Raid content, everything is easy mode in Rift, and that would be my only complaint.

I left when the masses left. The only account I have left running consistently is my WoW. I've been following guildmates from one game to another lol.

I love that people are moving from MMO to MMO based on popularity these days (WoW to Rift to TOR, etc...) because it forces the game companies to keep the content coming and their player-base happy.

The fallout of this is some games become ghost towns almost overnight. I'm sure it's not an easy task to merge servers either, which is probably why most games are now using group finders.

Rift seemed very WoW clone ish to me, with the one exception of those rifts, that would open and people could go fight them off.

It never really stood out to me, so.. never tried it.
Same thing with Warhammer MMO, it looked doomed from the get go (from the youtube videos I saw of it at the time).

Ive played Vanguard: Saga of Hero's, and Age of Conan , FFXIV, back when they where out (they where all failurs as far as Im concerned). Ive become weiry of MMO's as well, they need a certain amount of polish before Id even try them now. To many half made products, that they ll just fix, while takeing peoples cash, instead of releaseing something thats fine from the get go.

Ironically, I quit Aion to try something else, and just ended up regreting it.
I loved Aion, its one of those mmo's that just feels well made. The best mmo, Ive played since FFXI (I had really big hopes for FFXIV,...that was a letdown).

My brother loved WoW... I played it mainly just to play with him, soon as he quit so did I though, didnt really enjoy it. These MMO guys need to think up something new, think outsides the box, and deliver good quality from the start, if they hope to keep people playing their games and not just grind to max cap and leave game, once they figour out there is no real content in the game for them to do.

F2P Aion soon :) thats where Im heading... or Firefall.

Great gameplay for free > paying for something not polished, released before it should have been.

I was shocked how much TOR took from WoW,end of the day I guess WoW is the standard.

I'll say enjoyed playing Rift a lot more then WoW.

I never really liked the whole multiple soul thing. It seems everybody can do everything and it was just a big button masher to me. If they had straight classes I probably would have stayed as I thought the graphics and sound were very good and the areas were definitely interesting.

The UI and interface scared me right way.

That said Ive watched some of the "lets play Tor" type youtube videos, and the gameplay looks okay, if the storylines and lore/universe/imersion of fans, okay Im sure people will stay with it.

Starwars is a huge franchise and most geeks love the movies and the lore of it.
But yeah... not really innovative in any sense from what Ive seen, that said,
I think its one of those MMO's that ll last longer than most
(I dont think it ll have a sudden wave of everyone leaveing it).

@Mem

Did you try Vangaurd Sage of heros?

I loved the class systems and classes, the balance seemed fine too.
On top of that they had a unique trade called Diplomacy, it was awesom.

Why did it fail? it was reaaaally poorly optimised, so it ran like crap on most systems (for seemingly no visual quality reasons). It was full of bugs, servers going up and down.

Age of Conan?
Pretty demanding game, very pvp focused....killed game? they started redueing things, nerfing things to hell, changeing skil systems...., they lied about content, and had no real endgame content when it was first out. That ontop of pvp game was very unblanced, and it didnt look like they where trying to balance it. Today its free2play.

FFXIV:
dont get me started....*grumbles like a angry old man*
How the fack, could they ruin the beautifull game they had in ffxi? its like they took everything they did right with ffxi and threw it out the window, trying to do something new/more WoW ish approch.

That doesnt mean, publishers shouldnt try new stuff.... ffxi was already differnt enough from WoW, that it stood out on its own. Hell I bet theyd be swimming in subs now if they have kept the same combat/interphase ect ect system from ffxi.

You should have seen the sh*t storm the beta for FFXIV was... everyone was complaining about everything more or less. NOTHING got fixed, they launched the game anyway, as it was. Why bother haveing beta testing if you dont plan on listning to the fans of the genre that love it?

its differnt things for differnt MMOs, but the publishers really should be takeing notes, atleast know what to avoid when launching a new title, it these faults keep repeating.

I bought the collectors edition for when Rift goes free to play. I think its a solid game but it bugs me that rotations can be macroed into like 4 buttons in PvE. Just takes any slight amount of skill required out of the game right there.

I played Vanguard when it first came out(not bad not sure how huge player base is right now), tried AoC too but did not really like that one, even played TOR up to level 40 but its not the game for me,not many games I've not tried MMORPG wise.
