Just got it on DVD. Any good? Hear the audio track is awesome.

Probably cant compare to "Das Boot", right?

I thought it was pretty good myself.

WOn't become the classic like Das Boot though. But all in all I thought it was a good movie.

I believe U-571 has DTS rite? I don't really remember, but the 5.1 mix was awesome, helps that I have a 5.1 THX Ultra certified system 😀

Im not that rich but my set up is ok. Keep dodging ricochets when I watch the Patriot. 🙂

It does have DTS but I am using 6 channels discreet from my DVD to my Amp instead of Optical so I cant compare DTS to 5.1. No one can say if this is really better or not but I am happy for now, Any comments welcome.

I liked that movie. Wasn't that the one that advertized as having Jon Bon Jovi in it? But he only had a short part at the very beginning before the boat ever left the docks. Once they were out at sea Bon Jovi was not in the movie anymore. They only used him as a celebrity name to try and sell the movie. But personally, I think the movie sold itself without Bon Jovi. On the other hand, perhaps his name helped to encourage some of the younger people to go see it, who may not have gone otherwise, and then they learned something about history.

well it was a pretty good movie....too much hollywoodized for my taste thou....the germans missed all the time and the americans (surprise...) just hijacked a german boat, with a crew of what 8 persons and just knocked out half the german navy.....ya right

hadn't it been that biased it would have been a good movie thou

I didn't really like it... don't expect it to be very realistic.
I wish real subs were that durable...
Dolby Digital audio was pretty good though.

Das Boot, IMHO, was a lot more realistic. The Director's Cut DVD is quite good; recommended. You can probably get it for cheap now anyways.

I enjoyed "U-571". It had some good action sequences and was pretty entertaining in general. Just keep in mind that is not historically accurate and IMO doesn't have the staying power to become a classic like Das Boot.

While definitely no Das Boot, I enjoyed this movie. I have it on DVD as well, it's has a really good mix. Good for really testing your system out.
