I think the director's name was Chris Chung. Anime's impact on his drawings were obvious as his style and motion was fluid and smooth. It was also coupled with American comics influence which made his work very distinct. My last recognition of his work was in Animatrix where he contributed one episode of his own.

Aeon Flux was the bomb back in the 90s. It was mildly amusing and disturbing for a 15 year old me back then. Do you remember the episode where a city was physically divided by working class and the better? And this couple wanted to make an escape to the other end but the only way was to pass the deadly gate armed with dangerous traps.

The guy made it just barely but the girl didn't. The next time she tried, she finally got caught by the security system with electric spider webs. The webs immobilized her and then series of mechanical surgical tools emerged into her. It gave her a strong dose of pain killer and amputated all of her limbs while she was conscious.

AF was so cool...

here's a good source

Yep, loved the show.

I have the DVD of it, that was on a very rare limited release about 6+ years ago. It has like 8 or so episodes on it, I haven't watched it in years though, so don't quote me.

DVDs were that consumer-friendly 6 plus years ago?

1998? I think so. It was a gift, I don't really remember.

Peter Chung.

Also more recently made Reign the Conqueror.

I always saw greater influence from european drawing and animation styles on his work, although
I'm sure there were some anime influences as well.

I have this too, one of my first DVD purchases after I got my first player and Evil Dead 2 (around Halloween '98). It supposedly has all of the silent shorts from Liquid Television, but unfortunately only a few of the longer episodes from the half-hour series.

Release Date: 9-2-1997

Aeon Flux and Reign were great series, i wish i could watch the rest of Reign when it was on Cartoon Network a few months ago

OP: Yes, I remember that episode, pretty ironic that the girl trying to escape was making the tools that kept her half in ;)

what was it about

It was about the lives of Julie, a freelance social worker, and a dillusional 'superhero' getting entangled with each other. About a villian/rapist named Mr. Gone who knows not only about the two but also of the existance of another world (alternate universe?) called Pangea which links Julie and the Maxx even closer. The episodes go over why Mr. Gone came to the 'real world' and the past and future of the protagonists and their grasp on whats real and whats worth living for. Really deep stuff
