LOL who are you trying to kid? I'm from Australia and prices are very reasonable for C2D chips. The E6300 is only a little more than an X2 4200+.

Anyhow, to stay on topic...

Obviously anyone who can afford a new C2D platform would most likely get one. The ones that don't are usually S939 upgraders, or AMD fans. I saw one guy @ HardOCP get an FX-62 system, when I told him an E6600 @ 1/3 the price outperforms it, guess his response? "I prefer AM2".

How can you argue with that? LOL 😉

Don't underestimate the power of brand loyalty...

Here is another idea - you could have kept your suggestion to yourself, and let people (and that guy) buy what they want to buy. Just because you think they should buy it doesnt mean they should.

I kinda of agree with him..

While there are some kick ass X2 systems, if building a new system even on a tight budget, the extra $50-$100 is going to be worth it.

The OP asked a question regarding why anyone would buy an X2 over C2D at this point, and I answered:

1) Budget constraints
2) Brand loyalty

So you think getting an FX-62 over an E6600 is a good idea do you? I think it's utterly stupid and a big waste of money, and I'm not one that doesn't speak out when I think people make stupid decisions. But if it turns out that brand loyalty is involved, then I just shut up, because I'm wasting my time.

I just bought a 4400 89 watts for $230 and overclocked it to 3.1ghz.
So far i love it. Can you just go away and take your TROLL/ FUD to your Intel good buddies?

The real question is, why do you care what people do with their money? Its not yours, and not your problem. What if that is just what they wanted to buy? Thats what I do not get. I can see steering him towards a smart purchase if he is asking for opinions on what to buy, but since that guy allready bought it, why should you care? Brand loyalty or not, it is not anyones right to question the way someone else spends their money. Not personally attacking you, its just that the mindset like that kind of irritates me.

Even when I was asking questions about the 4800+ that I bought, I was getting people to say to buy C2D instead. We have some of the things in stock at work, and I can get them at cost through the store part of the business if I wanted to - but I do not. I know I am not the only one who thinks like that also.

No, I think you misunderstood me. The point is he didn't get his system yet, but was in the process of getting the parts. He wanted to build a really fast system, but didn't want to overclock, and I advised him to get an E6600 instead of an FX-62, he responded that he preferred AM2, so I just let him be.

I never 'attacked' him for his decision, just reminded him there were cheaper and faster alternatives. He had made up his mind on the FX-62 though, and you are right, it is his money after all, and he can spend it any way he likes. Who am I to argue?

In trying to stay on topic with the OP's queries, I just used it as an example of how sometimes it isn't down to simply price/performance for some. Some people simply prefer AMD, some prefer Intel.

What the hell is the matter with you. It's a D I S C U S S I O N. I merely want to know your reason. That is all!!!! Maybe I can find a good reason to buy a damn X2. I do not have an agenda here. It just seemed to me that Intel is the better choice and everyone says it's the better choice. So I am discussing it here for information. I am not trolling. Like harpoon84 said, Brand loyalty or cost are some of the reasons. Do you honestly think that I think people are stupid for buying AMD? Your stupid for assuming that, if you are.

Here is another idea - you could have kept your SUGGESTIONS to yourself, and let people (and that guy) buy what they want to buy. Just because you think they should buy it doesnt mean they should.

It's exactly that!!!!!! A SUGGESTION!!!!! Let's see here.....

sug?ges?tion /s?g'd??st??n, s?-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[suhg-jes-chuhn, suh-]
?noun
1. the act of suggesting.
2. the state of being suggested.
3. something suggested, as a piece of advice: We made the suggestion that she resign.
4. a slight trace: He speaks with a suggestion of a foreign accent.
5. the calling up in the mind of one idea by another by virtue of some association or of some natural connection between the ideas.
6. the idea thus called up.
7. Psychology.
a. the process of inducing a thought, sensation, or action in a receptive person without using persuasion and without giving rise to reflection in the recipient.
b. the thought, sensation, or action induced in this way.

Look at 7a.

There's always the possibility that some people want a time tested platform for their dual core CPU. That would limit them to either an X2 or a PD, which would you rather have?

I just bought a mb plus cpu combo AMD x2 4200+ for $200 bucks for my nephew. Why? Brand loyalty, price and possible upgrade to quad cores in the future. My nephew asked for a P4 3.4 netburst originally and the core duo by Intel is just too new.

You didn?t buy him a C2D x6800, you cheapskate 😛 j/k

This threads topic summary (WWHHYY!!!?????) seems to indicates that you do think people are stupid for buying AMD, even your original one liner post (What possible reason can you have?) has a derogatory tone to it. You would have to be naive to think you wouldn?t get negative feedback after the tone that your original post and topic summary convey.

If you honestly don?t think people are stupid for buying AMD then you never needed to ask the question, did you?

If you really need an answer it could be that they know their needs and their needs don?t require anything more, it is less expensive, it may be readily available at more places, it could even have less problems from being a more mature standard or the company has even proven itself to be more reliable. There are many reasons for people to make the choices they do, some are factual some are perceived but they are still valid for the person making the choice.

You might as well be asking why everybody doesn?t buy the same make and model car over all other makes and models of cars.

I agree your right. I should not have put that on the title, I do sound like you said. That is my bad.

I disagree there. I simply am interested to know. You did point out some interesting info though.

I built a new 3800 X2 system a month ago shortly after the Conroe came out. I wanted to overclock and so I got a great DFI MB for $95 and the X2 for $150. The cheapest Conroe board I would have considered was the DS3 at $150, and the 6300 itself was $200. The bugginess of the DS3 (and the current crop of Conroe motherboards in general) put me off so that left me with no sub-$200 board of worth. Plus to overclock the 6300, I would have had to buy a better HSF which was more.

In the end, I overclocked my 3800 to 2.6 on the stock HSF, and saved $150-$200 over the Conroe - which would have been even faster, but not $150-200 faster IMO. Had there been better Conroe MB's, I probably would have gone that route but the first generation boards are too pricey for what you get in my opinion. I didn't want to get a cheap $50-60 board to carry me over until a better $150 board was available. That would have only increased the price difference between the 2 platforms.

The Conroe would be faster, but not enough faster (for what I use my PC for) to warrant the extra $150-200. When the next generation Conroe boards come out, I would envision there being less of a price/stability gap between AMD/Intel and would probably go the Conroe route if I were to do it over again.

Single core is a no brainer - AMD because of price/performance.

I went with the X2 because I plan on building in another year or so when K8L comes out. I didn't want to have more than a modest budget because I'd rather spend the money later. I was coming off an Athlon XP 2200+ and just couldn't stand to wait another year.

My only regret is going with AM2 on the nForce 570....

You do realise that you can edit the title at any time? If you agree that it was a mistake, why not fix it? Just a suggestion...

I was not going to bother because I thought the thread died. But done now.

Thanks...
BTW, I have recently bought another X2 system as well. The bang for my budget was excellent (for the total system price...the good quality C2D mobos are still too dear).

Well I think now that I heard your opinions I am going with an AM2 X2 setup, that way i can just buy a mobo and a cpu only. I am still suffering with a Pentium 520. Although I like my 925X chipset it certainly is time to upgrade. I will wait on C2D for better mobs

if you go with C2D you can also get a mobo and cpu only
