i've heard that there are discounts for shareholders and a rumor about a 20% discount for first time buyers. i emailed ibm and they confirmed the shareholder discount but not the 20% off for new buyers. just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting that 20% discount - if so, it's actually makes for a better deal than some of the offers for shareholders. thanks!

Yes, 20% off is for first-time business buyers only. You may get a kind rep who gives you the discount anyway. I got my T40P at a significant discount - one that wasn't supposed to happen! They had the 10% sale at the time and they allowed me to stack the discount with my shareholder's discount. I have the shares, but did not have to provide proof, oddly enough. In the end, my T40p came just a few bucks over $3,000, tax and shipping inclusive.

I second nanny's question. I am in fact getting for my wife's home business, but I can't find any reference to this discount program on ibm.com or ibm.ca.

A link or procedure would be great.

The 20% first-time buyers' discount is not available in Canada for those who care.

Also, the sales reps ask about your business' size and plans for expansion. It seems that if you're not planning on purchasing 20 or more systems over the coming year, you won't qualify.

At any rate, I managed to hook-up with Jonathan Sweeney (x6044) and he is putting the order in the works (2373G3U-7200rpm drive), Port Replicator II, and AC/DC combo adaptor.

Now I just have to cancel the 2373G1U I ordered yesterday from the Canadian site. Doh!

Doh! The 2373G3U's availability won't let me get it! I can't down to the US to pick it up.

Staying with 2373G1U from ibm.ca. Should be here early next week and I still have the 30-day money back policy.

Also got the 3-year insurance on it.

I'll post my impressions when I get it.

No need to get the G3U, it's the same thing as the G1U except for the 60GB vs. 40GB hdd. not worth $300 to me....

Ultrawide,

The G3U drive is 60GB and 7200rpm. That's the big diff, not just the size.

I recently ordered at T40P
1.6 P-M
512 Ram
32 MB Radeon 9000
80 gig HD
for 1999, but i think that had more to do with me ordering it through my college. Check with your school to see if you can get any sort of discounts on computers.

i bought some ibm stock. just got the t40 i ordered via the shareholders purchase program. i got the performance model (too lazy too look up the actual number) with the SPP discount it was $1549. A $430 difference over the normal web price. Came out to about $1640 something with the tax and free shipping.

As for the laptop, I'm loving it. Wasn't expecting the thing to be so thin! People who think they need resolution over 1024 x 768 on a 14.1 inch monitor are crazy. Thats about all I can say about it right now though, as i've been playing on it since i got it about 4 hrs ago.
