i was over my buddys house once when they were playing. It was excruciatingly lame.

And so is watching baseball and women's basketball. You really aren't able to enjoy it unless you are the one actually playing it.

I know alot of Dnd I play Baldur's gate, Baldur's gate 2, Icewind dale1 and Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinternights. I got all the expansion for those games. Tales of sword coast doesn't have a storyline but instead a new town and some quests. While Throne of Bhaal adds the watcher keep dungeon but it got cool story line after you defeat the elven protagonist. heart of winter has a storyline also but isn't as good as throne of Bhaal. Icewind Dale 2 doesn't have a expansion.

I should know, those games rule. Black isle and bioware really know how to make games. especially the storylines.

I miss D&D :brokenheart:

I got into it at summer camp in 4th grade and played pretty regularly in grammar school, high school, and college. for a few months after college, I was in an irc group, but that eventually fell apart when the DM went awol. I haven't played in like 4 years... my dice bag sits there taunting me, but I don't know anyone who plays anymore except people living several hundred miles away 🙁

Ok i read up on some stuff. Here's a monk multiclass build. 1lvl Wizard w/ true strike and mage armor then monk levels. That way i can do true strike + flurry of blows THEN i can mage armor to up my AC without an armor check penalty. seems legit yeah? while scouring the forums i realized there are people WAY too into this game, like adopting a completely different personality and such. I dont think we're gonna take it that far.

And as far as getting flak from friends, yeah one of my roommates is making fun of me but whatever, it's no big deal.

You.. you didn't play Planescape: Torment?!

You don't deserve to post in this thread.

In my case I have a carved wooden box given to my by an old DM, a dice bag, and a dice box that looks like the Hellraiser box. No Cenobites have popped out.. yet 😉

If you've never played you will HATE this character. You will totally suck until very later levels. You have to be babysat and mooch off your party's XP for the first 15 levels of your characters "life". Depending on your gaming frequency and DM'ing, that could take months upon months of *real time* gaming.

For your first character I'd suggest going something much more simple - useful. Stick to the rogue if you want to roll play better. Fighter if you want to splatter people. Cleric if you want some magic ability and can tank for the group. Clerics can get insane AC's and buffs making them awesome leading chargers.

I'm in college and DM for a game Tuesday nights (we were doing it on the weekends, but college parties take precedence over D&D). It is more of a good reason for us to hang out, but lately, some of the group is starting to hate each other.

It is like the guys in the Canadian videos linked earlier in the thread. I, and most of the players are the guy bringing beer, but we've got a couple of the "serious" people who get very upset if we don't get a lot of serious playing done.

If you're going to be a monk, make sure you read the special melee combat stuff in the PHB. Tripping, tumbling, etc. They're useful.

There's a feat called Practiced Spellcaster that lets you use 4 levels of another class to count as spellcasting levels. So if you were a Wizard 1/Monk 4, you could cast Mage Armor for 5 hours instead of 1.

I would just take straight monk if it is your first time playing though. The wizard multiclass takes way too much preparation.

Playing DnD in real life sounds excruciating. It would take so much time...

Of course, I have no room to talk....

The game is a lot of fun if you get the right group of people together. I was normally the DM but also had a ranger in one of my player's world's as well. Half of the fun was going off and doing totally unexpected stuff, which forced the DM to improv the whole thing.

DnD is pretty like an mmo in the way that the amount of fun you have usually comes from the people you play with. I've only played twice but it was pretty fun when we did.
