Anybody own VS Athletics, Rogue, Do-Win, Adidas, or Pendlay weightlifting shoes?

So, my current situation is that I want to get a pair of weightlifting shoes but can't decide on what to get. The VS Dynamos are on sale for $71 shipped, whereas the others start at about $110 and go up from there, not including shipping.

I'm trying to figure out if there's an appreciable difference between the "okay", "good", and "great" shoes, when taking into consideration that I'm still basically new to o-lifting.

I don't mind spending the cash for a better shoe, but if $71 will do just fine until I really master the lifts, then I'd rather take that other $40+ and spend it on a set of rings.

Help? :)

I have 3 pairs :p yeah I've been at it for nearly 9yrs...

Adidas original ironworks the funky white with red ones :p they were solid, great shoes, lent them to my mate : £65
AdiStars 04 Athen ones, love them, comfy, great shoes, lunchtime gym squat shoes £125
Nike's : got them off ebay for £100 as pre production ones and they are my favorite, wider for my feet and a better fit then my Adistars, great design and a wider base then the AdiStars, but they are near impossible to buy as Nike don't make them anymore.

I'd spend the extra mate. Theres minimal difference between most of them. The Nike's are f0cking heavy but they are just a bit more luxurious then the AdiStars which are no bum shoes to begin with imo. I'm not such a fan of the AdiStars 08 ones though. Too garish and bowling shoes looking, even by weightlifting shoes standards!

But any of the above ones would be fine imo.

It's not realistic to go barefoot at a gym, but the less shoe the better IMO. I've found my leg workouts to be much better when I'm in less shoe.

Vibrams or Chuck Taylors can also be reasonable options if you don't go for real weightlifting shoes.

For deadlifting. Those aren't the best for squatting or oly lifts.

I wear these for squatting: http://www.titansupport.com/pr...ts/sst-pro-series.html

I've tried on a pair of adistars, I like them, but I like the Safe's better. However, I do powerlifting - I'm told that while a lot of powerlifters prefer the Safes, the Adidas shoes are better for olympic lifts.

Rigeret is a BEAST!

real weight lifting shoes > chuck taylors > Vibrams

I would not recommend going barefoot, sure it can be done but you don't wan to step on a stone/ wood/ splinter with weight over head, the suprise could be very dodgy and cause you to not drop the bar away from you, not to mention what it could do to your foot...

You want a solid base for weightlifting, vibrams would not allow this. Sure it would make you work harder by making it harder to squat/ olympic lift due to not quite as solid/ flat weightlifting shoes, but what would the benefits be to increasing your lifts? Which is the main goal in lifting, but if that isn't your goal and you want to tax your muscles differently then go for it.

I've heard of one coach that gets his lifters to use different shoes to squat in for a 'slightly' different stimulus...not sure if he gets them to squat barefooted though?

Yeah, I've looked at a few powerlifting shoes too and I'll stick to the traditional o-lifting shoes since that's what I really want to work on.

Thanks for the insight, Koing.

As for VFF and Chucks, I have those covered. I'll deadlift barefoot or in VFFs (or most WODs that don't require excessive running or jumping), but o-lifting requires a more specific shoe.

I own the VS Dynamos (black shoes with red stuff). I'm also new to Olympic weightlifting. I know for sure I am not putting good use to these shoes just yet, though. I've only had about...10 lifting sessions with them (olympic oriented). I do appreciate the good heel when squatting, but I think I'll truly get it's benefits when I learn to do a full clean.

It's much easier to squat in. As for lifting it'll be easier as the weights go up as your still learning the lifts.

Enjoy them!

When I do a full olympic clean, am I supposed to drop A2G, or is a slightly-below parallel catch fine? I tend to spread my legs apart when I catch the bar that low.

I own a pair of Do-Win Shoes and they are pretty solid. I use them for all my squatting and VFF's for everything else. The hard flat sole of the Do-Wins gives great stability and the raised heel makes it easier to go deep in the squat. Only complaint I have is that the velcro straps seem unnecessarilly long and just kind of hang on the floor. It makes no difference performance-wise, but looks kind of dumb.

I have the Adidas Adistar and they are ok. At first though they were extremely uncomfortable where the 3rd velcro strips were (the one closest to your toes) I don't know why but it feels like different material than the other velcro straps there. I got use to it though I guess since it doesn't bother me anymore

Well I went with the VS Dynamos since I'm still working on my form...once I get everything dialed in and a better shoe will make a difference, I'll upgrade.

I expect to get them today...I'm excited. Too bad I've worked 12+ hour days so far this week and will be in California over the weekend...no time for WODs :(

Got em! They fit great, look to be of a pretty decent quality...now to do some lifts in them. Oh wait, that won't happen this week BECAUSE OF WORK. bah.
