Anybody out there got suggestions for a sturdy Lawn Trimmer/Edger that doesn't require constant maintenance?

My home has a pretty small lawn, so I've been using a Black and Decker Grass Hog to edge it every week. It works great except for one significant problem: the string in the automatic feed spool disappears too quickly, prompting me to buy new - and very expensive - spools almost every two weeks.

I think it's time to get a new edger, but I need suggestions. Like I said, I have a pretty small lawn. I don't want a gas powered-edger if necessary, either, but I'll take it if I have to. I'm perfectly fine with using an extension cord.

Get the ryobi electric string timmer from home depot and the edger attachment. Best of both worlds.

At any rate, engines on lawnmowers are VERY easy to use. Once a year just change the oil, spark plug and air filter and you're set for another year. We have lawn equipment that's more then 20 years old and it still runs great.

I bought a Craftsman gas trimmer 7 years ago when i bought my house and have never had a problem with it. for winter storage, i will put in some stabil stuff in the gas and run it until the small tank is dry and put it back on the rack. when spring comes i fill it up, prime it and it will start on the third pull.

i think i paid about 70 bucks for it and i am very happy with it.

my dad had a Sthill (sp) and that thing sucked. it would beat your ass to get it to start and cost twice as much as my craftsman.
