Replacing my Macbook hard drive with an SSD. Ordered an Optibay from MCETech. They're pretty well reviewed so it didn't seem like an issue. This was over two weeks ago. So far I haven't gotten a shipping notice or email that my items are back ordered. I've emailed them twice to find out what's going on but haven't gotten a reply. Kind of got me worried. Anybody have problems with these guys?

I considered it, but I couldn't find one for under $50. So instead, I got a generic one on Amazon for like $20. I had to mod it a bit to fit in my MacBook, (clipped off a screw bracket with tin snips) and it worked fine.

I also went with a similar model to that from Amazon, seemed to me that the price of the Optibay was a rip off.

They appear to have a couple of contact telephone numbers on their site, I suggest you give them a ring to see what's going on if they're not responding to email.

Finally got a hold of them. Guess there was an issue with the shipping as I had accidentally selected a US only option. Partially my fault but would have been nice if they had bothered emailing me rather than me chasing them. Anyway, they promised it would ship out today.

Wondering if you ever actually received it and whether it worked as advertised. When I heard about their $100 optibay I thought it still sounded too good to be true (for it to make a sata 3 drive to work reliable in the optical bay), but I saw a couple of legitimate-seeming posts about it and decided to take a chance. I received an automatic shipping notification from usps that MCEtech initiated a day or two after I ordered, but the tracking never advanced beyond "usps has been notified to expect package for shipping" and after two weeks I emailed MCEtech, only to be ignored thus far ...

I did receive it and it does work as advertised. All it really does is convert the standard portable SATA bus to the proprietary connector Apple uses for their optical drives. Installation is pretty straight forward. Fits snugly in the case and the drive just pops in.

I got their external optical enclosure as well. It works but it's pretty chintzy. Cheap, cheap plastic. You can find better ones elsewhere.
