Anybody on broadband? How much can you download before being charged?

Over here, we have a cap at 15 gigs down and 5 gigs up, and we get charged 2 cents per meg over the limit.
My next billing period started at midnight tonight, and I had gone over by a gig. I'm hoping they don't charge me cause sometimes they don't seem to notice. However they definitely noticed when I went over by 21 gigs.
Oh well, at least I can start downloading again.

Wtf? I'm on cable and they don't limit how much I'm allowed to download... what a weird policy.

Timewarner has no limit AFAIK

I download well over 10gb a week. 😀

My downloads have been slow tho, Since i'm on campus 90% of the time.

My school is however taking the hit on downloads 🙂 Avg= 15gb down about 500mb up.

Ohh... well there ya' go. I'm in WA and I pay $70 (USD)/month for 1.5 mb down/128 kb up on Charter.

Currently paying £24.99 for 600/128kbps cable, which is going byebye at end of month.

Have just ordered 1MB/256k ADSL for £32.99 per month, should be activated in 1-2 weeks 😀

No download/upload limit on either 🙂

Confused

I get 4mbps down and 256kbps up on cable
I regularly get constant speeds of 450-500 KB

edit: Oh yeah, and there's an even higher speed service that gets totally unlimited everything and something like 16mbps down and 1mbps up but that's like double the price

Well that's what you get when the cable company has a monopoly in this province. In all the other provinces, Rogers controls everything, and in Quebec Videotron does.
DSL is the same price as cable, but the limits are lower and speed is slower. Plus, they won't let you BUY the modem so they get to charge you for the rental. At least with cable I bought the modem and pay no rental fee.

Same with Comcast here. Limits suck ass... what's the point of having broadband if you can't use it?

Well technically they don't tell us either. You have to ask, otherwise they won't bother telling you.
Anyway, I've never been charged unless I went way over the limit. Like downloading 36gigs when the limit was 10 (they just recently upped it to 15). They charge 2 cents per meg in 100 meg blocks up to a total of $99 extra.
Their "unlimited" service isn't quite unlimited when you start poking around a bit. And unfortunately as long as you're using a router you get no tech support, cause they just blame the router. Bunch of useless pricks these customer reps. I think they get that job because they figure they can do 2 things: 1 is blame your router and 2 is transfer you to someone else.

No limit here either. There's a good amount of broadband competition here in CA so broadband companies wouldn't dare impose an allowance.
