It's far superior to "Stop Making Sense" in every way, and I LOVE "Stop Making Sense"! The DTS sound just takes it to the next level. Videography is fast paced and clean. Each musician has honed their skills to the highest level, and they're playing songs they know by heart. The solos are perfect and true to the studio versions... only better!

My wife bought me Peter Gabriel's "Secret World Live", and it's great. She was disappointed with it, but I think that's because she's spoiled by these other DVDs.

I only saw the beginning of "Perfect Square", and it seemed OK. Good sound, but not much of a stage show. I guess that's why they keep the shots so short in Roxy's video. Keeps it interesting.

They're really two different animals (gabriel/talking heads vs REM/PJ)

Gabriel and TH are very theatrical, everything's structured around wildly creative performance ideas that are supposed to intertwine and add another interesting level to the music. The DVDs are produced like they're producing a movie - camera placement and movement is carefully considered in the development of the stage show. Listen to the commentary on stop making sense to see how anal byrne was about every little detail. There's a reason SMS had a theatrical release.

REM/Pearl jam on the other hand, the goal is to take the existing live show and film it in a way that puts you in the audience, so it's like seeing the show. You really have to watch Perfect sqaure start to finish, the ending is incredible. Totally balls out rock show, the audience is awesome (because europeans are so much cooler than us dumb-fvck americans), the setting is very cool and the show just keeps getting better.

oh, and FVCK DTS. it's fine for movies, but sounds like ass on music. that's one of my main dislikes about REM's DVD- there's no PCM track. I don't care how many discs you have to put it on, gimme the damn un-bastardized version!

You're gonna cry when you hear the Roxy DVD on the Digital stereo track. The sound fades in and out like crazy. Digital 5.1 may be OK, but I don't have that on my PC. DTS is the shlt on this album. I wouldn't change a thing!
