I tried to find reviews but couldn't. I was thinking about getting a open box jaton video card since the price is decent but I wasn't sure about the quality. THanks.

The reason you can't find reviews is because Jaton aren't renowned for making quality cards.

They weren't back when I had a P1 233 and they aren't now.

In fact, this is only the second time I've seen somebody ask about them in about 8 years.

Open box + Jaton is not something I would purchase.

My 7800gt is a jaton card, its a replacement for my 6800 ultra which after a year i found that it had a second dvi port brocken (all red), so i sent it back and got the 7800gt.
They are not too bad, but i donno, up to u...

My 6800 ultra was in fact brocken from factory (faulty bios, dvi port, they had no idea how i managed to use it for 1 year :p), in fact they did not make it, it was a refrence card so not their fault really.

From what i've seen they are overpriced, but besides that i dont see any particular problems with their quality, although i would trust other brands like asus, msi etc anyday over jaton.

EDIT: also i had 3 years warranty, thats probably the only reason i got the card, still have 1.5 years left :p... so i'm happy with it, if it breaks i get another one for free... also no shiping cost, done it through a local shop. So for me it was convenient to buy it, donno how it would be for u. (if i had a choice to buy it again, well i donno getting a free 7800gt was rather sweet)

I know of four installed where I work. Three have worked without issue. The fourth one failed after about a year. They replaced it free of charge. If your not looking for fancy or cutting edge they are probably ok. I have one in my home rig as a second video card and it's done ok but I don't stress it or anything either.

No problem, glad to help. :)

And yes, those brands you mentioned would be far, far better purchases.

I'm running a Sapphire card now, it's my second in a row and I love it, it's a great card.

I think it's pot luck with a 'B' brand such as Jaton.

Happy upgrading. :)

Jaton is a subsiduary of Pine Technology, just like XFX. They have never had a good reputation, I've had cards from them die on clients in the distant past.

how good is the price of the card you're considering? chances are you could probably get the same, or better, deal from a reputable brand.
