I'm making a simply webpage for my computer science course and I'd like to make it more interesting with some animated .gif files. The thing is i don't know of any good place to find them. I tried googling gif files but there were way too many. anybody know any good sites?

Agreed!

Animated gifs generally ruin webpages, and make them look VERY unprofessional.
have seen a few sites with one small animated gif that actually didn't hurt the quality too much, however, 99% of the time, they stick out like a sore thumb.

go purchase the adobe creative suite 2, and see what happens

if you can't afford the suite, i'm sure there is a place on web for it.

sorry guys, this site isn't hosted yet, the UCR CS server is having some issues, we're going to be electronically turning it in to our professors, I'll try to find a host but its not online yet.

Flashing text works good... something red or pink.

You don't know where to find any, and yet you went to google and searched for exactly what you were looking for. However, then there were too many so you couldn't pick any of them.
