I am looking for a non brand specific HD utility that will do zero-fill or somehow handle sectors erroneously marked as bad by windows.
Long story short, One of my crunch boxes was showing a bad sector. It has an old WD 8gb HD, so I checked westerndigital.com for a utility. I had to use an old archive since their newest utility woudn't work on an older drive. Well, the older utility wouldn't do anything except give me an rma code for tech support.
What I wound up doing is making a ghost image, then used fdisk to delete the partion, repartition and format, then restore the ghost image. Everything is fine now, but that was a pain in the butt!
