Anybody know how much MS makes per OS license from Dell, HP, etc?

Writing a quick little paper and though it'd be a nice blurb but I can't find anything. I just want to know what the big PC manufacturers pay MS for each licence if anybody knows or has seen such a number.

It's far less then the consumer. That is how they stay competitive in price with home built computers. (That, and the fact that they gouge like no other if you do anything beyond the standard box)

Wow, listen to people make stuff up then put it in your paper. Nice paper.

Leave it to you to jump to conclusions, moron. I was hoping somebody would have a link or know better where to get this info than me. I don't read a lot of tech sites or articles, and I know quite a few here do.

They purchase it in bulk, the business model (4 levels) cost around 50$-75$. This depends if you want software assurance, it will cost an additional 25$ on average. An OEM license applies to that computer/device only, it is non-transferable. In the EULA you can not purchase an OEM license directly from a retailer without hardware being sold first.

From talking with vendors, they pay less if they have the Microsoft office demo's and or the other MS gimp software (I forgot the name). Unfortunately no idea on final cost as I am in the business side, we get charged the most. ;(
