As an IT professional, I can tell you that any place blocking webmail is doing it because THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO CHECK YOUR PERSONAL MAIL AT WORK. They probably have it blocked to prevent users from opening virus-infected emails.

It's also a good way to get in trouble with the higher-ups.

I understand that completely and don't have a problem with it. Most of the ppl I work with still have spyware infested PCs and they have been dense enough to bring programs from home on floppies... with viruses laced within the floppies... :roll:

Hmm.. I know the mail server is running on a Unix-based OS... I just need to figure out how to telnet in...

It's not that simple... they still have lay down a general rule for all accounts. but they wouldn't give me too much of a problem if i could outsmart it... as long as I don't pass the wealth of knowledge.

I get maybe 2 SPAM a week and I doubt it's from them.

to block virus infected emails makes sense. But when you have things like mail2web you can't download anything. You can only look which means you can't get a virus. I use to walk past the hotel next our building with my pda to get my email. Very frustrating when you want to keep your work related separate from your personal stuff.

they more than likely are monitoring your websites, and that's why tese sites are getting 'mysteriously' blocked.
