Man, I haven't had any time to follow the news this year, I don't even know the runners. Baffert and Zito have runners, I'm sure. Anyone know who? When Fusaichi Pegasus won the Derby, he was the first favorite to take it in, what, 26 years? :disgust: The super horse, the bloodlines supreme, mega-expensive blegh. And lost the Belmont, good for him. It was a much cooler year when Charismatic swept the first two races, the unlikely, the long shot, and then took third in the Belmont because he broke his leg. He so would have won...

I will watch the derby again this year as I do every year, but I have noticed there has been alot of talk about
the lack of viewers and popularity of the Kentucky Derby over the last 5 to 10 yrs. I think the only way the organizers
can get ratings up, is if they start running topless women jockeys.

I've always loved horses, just the look of them, used to vow if I ever became
filthy rich I'd own a few, a gorgous racehorse is pure poetry in motion :)

I agree with you totally but it seems there are not many fans out there like us. Thus the decline in horse racing's popularity.

Well it's the sport of kings ,nowadays rude, crude semi -literate athletes are hero's and
the only thing that qualifies as watchable it seems. I'm fortunate that there's quite a nice country club near hear I go uo the the Myopia Hunt club a few times each season to watch a
friend of mine run his string of Polo ponies. Hehehe, talk about an expensive hobby !! ! :)

No other animal has a personality quite like a horse. I need to get some pictures of my baby off the computer at home. It always amazes me how high strung racing thoroughbreds are - watching them saddle them is like watching that split second between the pitcher winging the batter and the whole team pouring out to fight on the field - are they gonna? will the horse behave? And then the races themselves, watching how the horses just get into it, the race is all there is.
