DP lives in a different corner of AR. episodic also lives in AR, other side of the state. I went to college in AR.

I live in central Arkansas (Little Rock area). The northwest corner of the state is booming - growing by leaps and bounds, both in terms of population and economy.
 
I lived in Little Rock for 6 months. I grew up a "Westcoaster" (WA & CA), so it was difficult for me to get acclaimated. There are some nice people, though.

You know - that was really a pointless post to make considering that the OP might be moving to Bentonville. It isn't like Jonesboro is the crown jewel of Arkansas either, but you don't see me running it down when it doesn't contribute anything to the thread. :roll:
 
Lol..why get so worked up over a city?? Bash Jonesboro all you wnat, I couldn't care less. Jonesboro is lame as hell, the only thing going for it is that it's a good family town.
 
Arkansas has a lot of great small towns as long as you mind your manners. I do have to say that I thought the people in Little Rock were very friendly to this road worn biker.
 
Arkansas aside, I have heard the Walmart Corporate is a very weird place to work. The offices are not at all plush and they apparently never remodel or replace furniture.

From my recollection, it was by no means run-down. Granted, it has been quite a few years since I interviewed there, but at the time WM corporate was very utilitarian. There was no teak panelled walkway with marble columns lined with original Andy Warhol works (along the lines of Tyson Foods corporate HQ), but it was not falling apart. The corporate culture was more focused on generating value for shareholders than it was on outward displays of excess. Of course, I think that employees (as shareholders) would much rather have that than an overstuffed guest chair in their plush cube. 😉

I've heard stories of 10 to 15 year old metal desks and worn chairs. Things don't have to be plush persay, but things do have a useful and expected lifespan

Just curious - what kind of position are you interviewing for? Seems like the org units that were more public in nature (i.e. had external visitors in frequently) typically were better appointed.

Heh, yeah - don't think it was quite that bad when they showed me where I would be sitting had I accepted their offer. Of course, IT was a cube farm for the most part, but the people I graduated with who ended up working there loved it. I will see if I can dig up an email addy for someone who is still there and see what it is like these days. Of course, you may see first hand soon enough.

The other place I interviewed with here in St. Louis is a cube farm where I would be working, too, so that wouldn't be any different, aside possibly in terms of scale. Large, divied up office in one vs. a large, divied up warehouse in the other 😛

I live just down the road from Bentonville... about a 30 minute drive at the most. NW Arkansas is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation and Fayetteville, AR, is routinely voted as one of the top cities in which to live as well as one of the best places for businesses (Link). It's not all bad here 🙂
