Never had a problem finding anything I need on the
www......
You sales pitch is failing. The reason those networks aren't used much is because they aren't needed. God, I can't remember the last time I used IRC / EFNET.
ÜberNet was (is?) a music sharing group started by Canadian Chris Myden aimed at producing high quality rips, which were shared using DC++. This all predated AccurateRip, and it started at a time where a great deal of the rips that people produced were crap.
ÜberNet had a VERY strict ripping standard called the
ÜberStandard that dictated about every parameter related to ripping that one could imagine. ie what ripping tool and version (Exact Audio Copy the last time I was a member), the settings of the ripping tool, bit rate (there were three allowable, APS, APX, and I can't remember the third) naming conventions, logging requirements, tagging, checksumming, etc. This was enforced by a script called AQScript which checked files, logs, etc, and created a file with all the pertinent info about that could be used as input to the script to check the file integrity of the components that comprised the rip. It was also enforced by kicking people from the group that failed to follow the rules set forth in the
ÜberGuide.
I don't know if these guys are still around. It was a great resource for finding esoteric albums. I lost track of them back in 2009 or so. Besides being a source of getting hard-to-find albums, the group's raisons d'être was pretty much obviated by the creation of AccurateRip.
