I respond to each animal I meet based on how they and I get along, and I've really never hated any dog or cat I've met.

Jeez, get a life, folks. Y'all sound like fussy, whiny, mini-bigots in the making.

Although, I will say, I am fearful of pit bulls, rottweilers and the like. I don't hate them, but I avoid them. :\

I used to volunteer at a Veterinary office and one of the ladies that worked there bred Rottweilers. Nicest dogs, next to Labs, that I've ever encountered.

I won't allow pit bulls in any of my rentals due to insurance criteria and high probability of dog bite litigation.

I'm not saying they are definitely going to attack anyone within reach, but I am still cautious around them.

I've never seen one do that and I've been around them from various backgrounds for many years, but my comments will do nothing to assuage your fears.

you are right.

and i am sure there are pitts and rotts who are sweethearts and would never harm anyone, i didn't dispute that.

No worries, my best friend is deathly afraid of all dogs, even the miniature ones, which makes zero sense to me. At least I get to make fun of him. :D

That's been my exact experience with a fairly large number of different Rotts across all sorts of experiences. When I lived in Philly with my Great Dane, Bogie, who was never on the leash (voice control ordinance in the city), two of his coolest large breed friends were Rotts we would meet in a small park down by the Delaware.

Another experience: Dogless and moving onto a strange property in the sticks. An old rott, off the leash, was barking and announcing that this was his territory, but NOT in any vicious way.

If you know dogs
well, you'd know the difference in barking tone and timbre, and in the accompanying body language, and I did, so I was able to move slowly and cautiously but fairly confidently towards him in a way such that he knew I was ok.

I've met several others over the years, both with and w/o my own dogs, and never met anything other than a nice, sane, decent one.

I'm always amazed at the number of people, dog owners included, who can't read dogs for shite, and are therefore needlessly fearful when they shouldn't be.

So, I've always been a bit surprised at their rep.

The only 2 breeds I don't trust are German shepherds, and pits. I've had both come after me with no provocation, and in the case of shepherds with pleasant behavior minutes earlier.

I hate chihuahuas. Girlfriend's sister has two of them and they sometimes stay with us. Just sit there and shake uncontrollably, bark at are dog, and cower to the cats if they get to close. I laugh when they start growling at our Aussie and she just puts her paw on their head to shut them up.

Not fail, he's right. I have two of the ugly little fuckers. So ugly they're cute, and don't get me started on the problems.

Every pure breed has problems due to inbreeding. I've personally never had any health problems with my pugs.

I'm not much of a fan of chihuahuas, because I've never met one that I liked. I used to not be much of a fan of little hyper dogs, but now I have a 3/4 miniature pinscher 1/4 miniature pomeranian. Big dog... on Red Bull... in a little dog body. Awesome dog though. Amazingly smart. And more amazingly energetic. He *loves* his laser. Well, it's his 4th laser in as many months. Cheaper to just replace them than to replace the batteries. He chases the laser beam back and forth across the yard, about 150 feet each way, over and over and over and over... and over and over and over...
until my arm gets too tired. Total distance each evening: miles.

I don't really like chihuahuas. My brother in law has one, and it's basically just a useless little dog that makes a lot of noise. I realize one is not indicative of the breed, but it doesn't really play or do anything you expect of a dog. Plus I don't think they're cute.

Other than that, I pretty much like all medium and large breed dogs a lot. And cats too. I had a lot of pets growing up, so I've pretty much experienced the whole range and haven't had any kinds of animals that I truly didn't like. Small dogs are a mixed bag for me - none that I really dislike (except chihuahuas, see above), but they don't really do much for me. Yorkies are probably the exception just because they might be the cutest dogs on the planet and tend to have great personalities.

As far as larger breeds that others are scared of, that's fine. I mean, for the most part, a dog is only as good as its owner anyway - but if you don't know the owner, the fear isn't really irrational. I'll hesitate around pits, especially if there are children around, just because they are very protective of children - possibly at your expense, but for the most part they're very sweet dogs. I love german shepherds, rotties, dobermans, etc.

i was bitten in the face by a rottweiler 2 years ago. always afraid of the things, from a young age, do them being the only breed that I ever encountered that loved to chase the fuck out of me, lol.

they do seem nice, though. :hmm:
