Thanks ... I'm trying to decide whether to apply for a job out in that area.
I'm currently in NYC.

Yeah, I love it up here; btw, it only rains 35 inches a year up here (less than in most areas), but it is grey all the time. 🙂

I visited for a week.

It doesn't rain all the time.
It wasn't sunny once, though.

I was depressed after a *week*.

It was pretty drizzly every day.

That being said, it was a very cool city. Lots of coffee if that's your thing (it isn't mine).

No sunlight and no coffee make zod something something...

...go crazy? LOL, it was a bit of an adjustment moving here for grad school after growing up in Southern California, going from 14 days of grey skies a year to 14 days of sun. It doesn't rain every day, but most days are grey.

Otherwise it's a nice, West Coast area, a lot like LA except a bit less crowded, a little more reserved and polite (more "nice" than "friendly"). Coming from NYC you'll have to adjust to the politeness and calmer language 🙂

telstar1,

The only thing that sucks worse then the state of Washington is The People's Republic Of Seattle. If you made the move, you would regret it for the rest of your depression-induced suicide-shortened life.

uh... wouldn't that be you, russ? 😉

seattle's nice. traffic can be a b!tch, but not any worse than ny or la i guess. weather... well i dunno i like crappy weather personally.

i just moved here from San Diego 6 months ago and to cope with the sh!tty wetaher and my depression i have become a compulsive shopper. its lame, i miss california, if it werent for the work i'd go back in a heartbeat.

<< Jeez .... Not a single positive word about the place. >>

What are you talking about? I love it here. 🙂

The weather sucks, we won't lie about that. If you're looking to guys like Russ for positive opinions about . . . well, anything . . . you're SOL anyway.

Plus, Seattlites love to bitch, and even if the weather doesn't bug most of us, we won't admit that; after all, we want to keep the Californians away! 😀

I love it up here in Seattle, I don't really even hate the weather!!! The people are nice (though a little liberal for my tastes) and the scenery is just fantastic. I think I am going to live here permanently after I graduate from school, I like it that much. If you don't like some grey, then don't live here, but the summers are very nice so it is not like you never see the sun. Thats just my $.02

I live close to Seattle and find its alright here. I would not want to trade it here for sunny s. cal. To me, the best thing of all, the city doesn't have a touristy feel, which is to my liking.

seattle is great, i even like the weather. maybe im just a somber person. its not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter.
traffic is a major pain, i think i saw on the news that seattle is the 3rd most congested city is the U.S.
crime is getting worse in seattle, dont wander around in pioneer square(downtown) at night, its a sh!thole.
but on the eastside (redmond, bellevue) everything is great.

From Seattle here, as well.

I miss the more extreme climate east of the mountains, but I generally like it over here. As others have said, traffic can be ridiculous. Haven't settled into a full-time job because I'm usually going from job to job acting (generally demands a lot of flexibility)

seattle is great!

i live south of seattle (closer to portland, oregon but i hang out in seattle a fair amount).

its a really fun city. yes i rains up here a ton, but during summer it rains very little. summers are usually beautiful and in the mid to upper 80s.

not to mention that the pacific northwest is the greatest spot in the nation for outdoor sports (except for colorado). we have tons of open land its absolutely beautiful. plus youve got the ocean nearby which you dont in colorado.

the job market is pretty good up here to. theres a variety of industries and opportunities.

i wouldnt live anywhere else (once i get back from japan) =P

<< Don't listen to these people! Washington is the bunghole of the US, and Seattle is a rhoid.

well hes coming from new york so i can definetly say its a step up for him, Russ have you ever seen pittsburgh or philly? that is the ass of the US, they make oakland look like Malibu.

there is good and bad in everything

i mentioned rain as that took the biggest getting used to to me i was born here but lived most of my life in arkansas
they get the same amount of rain but in arkansas you see times of 5 months between rains so as i said
the drizzle sometimes takes getting used to

as for the job market its really good

schools are very modern in academics compared to arkansas

and the people are friendly but unlike arkansas they aren't tipically Nosy lol

overall i'd rate her an 8 as traffic is pretty bad at times

hope this helps

ps yes like all big cities the crime rate is bad but predominately in certain neighborhoods😉

i personally feel safer here than dallas or houston, chicago,la,and norfolk va

😀

<< as for the job market its really good >>

Huh? Washington has the second highest unemployment in the nation. The only state worse is Oregon. People stand on street corners with signs that say "will work for an umbrella."
