Anybody here from Seattle?

At the moment I'm considering relocating there. Anything you could tell about Seattle that makes it different from other states? Stuff like weather, taxes, real estate, just lifestyle in general. Thanks in advance.

I live here in Seattle.

I personally like the weather. Winters very rarely get colder than 38 or so at night, and it very rarely gets above 82 or so. But with that being said, it has been getting hottter during the summer. Yes, it can rain alot for a few days, but it's not that big of a deal.

Real estate varies on whether you live in Seattle proper, or the burbs. Neighborhoods like Capital Hill & Belltown are around $550 average for studios, and around $700 for one bedrooms. Deals can be found though. Condo's on average start around $130k for decent ones.

There is a sales tax of around 8.9% in King County, but no state income tax.

Lifestyle is pretty good. It's best for those that like a mix of outdoor and indoor things. There's lots of great hiking, fishing, and camping places not to far out of the city. If you're into live music and comedy, there's alot of that round. Also tons of great restaraunts and nightclubs.

I spent the first 23 years of my life in Eastern Washington (Spokane), and spent a year in Brooklyn, and been in Seattle for around 5 years. I would definately say that Seattle is by far my favorite of all of them, and if I can help it, I'll never leave here.

Seattle's climate's quite mild considering its latitude, the Summer's cool, while it rarely snow in Winter.

Not sure about taxes, but sales tax was around 5% back in the nineties.

The Price of real estate has gone up by quite a bit -- for example, a friend of mine bought a home for $77,000 in 1982, and sold it for $225,000 in 1990.

Lifestyle is just great all around: If you're a discerning diner with adventurous appetite, you can sample diverse high quality cuisine from Steak to Sashimi, etc. And if you want to just get away from home, there's so many parks that you can go to.

The starbucks is true, but it is absolutely gorgeous outside. 65F with some white puffy clouds and a gentle breeze. Our stupid meterologists always predict rain and it never comes.

Today's weather is decent here in Portland but it could be sunnier and warmer.

What's there to do in Portland? I've only passed it going towards the beach. I just remember going pass the bridge and it smelling really bad.

Ha, better than horrible drivers and obnoxious people who talk for hours about their boring lives. 😛
