MRE's in the last 10 years are lightyears ahead of those before. Still there are some that soldiers dread and some that are univeral favorites.

Let's compare most hated MREs. Is anything more wretched than the old Pork Patty MRE?. It's sole redeeming fact was that it could also double as a Brillo pad.

Yeah, pork pucks were pretty brutal. Even breaking them up into small chunks to put into ranger pudding didn't help. However, IIRC it did have the tasty cookie bar in it that looked like compressed sawdust.

Screw MREs, you want FSRs (First Strike Rations)! An FSR has over twice the calories of an MRE, yet an FSR weighs only a small fraction of an MRE. They even include caffeinated gum!

Never heard of FSR's, although I've had LRP and flight-duty MREs before.

I just found an MRE in my basement that's probably a good 4+ years old. Do you think it's still good guys?

Never had to eat an MRE in my 8 years in the Navy.

Question for ya: On vessels at sea, is the food cooked by sailors, Navy civilians, or does the Navy contract it out? Just wondering.

You're kidding right? You think they contract Aramark to cater on an aircraft carrier?

I would live off of MRE's if I could find them, which is probably a good thing that I can't.

In the Army, Haliburton just gets the local nationals to cook it for cheap! You need moar locals in the Navy.
