Anybody here cook their dogs food?

I've tried many different higher end kibbles mixed with a bunch of different brands and flavors of higher end canned wet foods. He just doesn't love any of it. He tolerates it at best. It would be more convenient but ultimately this is probably healthier for him too, so it's good I ended up here. Only wish I did so sooner.

Isn't wet dog food mainly marketing (lots of water content)?

There are numerous websites for really healthy dog food discussions. Blue Wolf, Wellness, etc... try those kibble. They aren't cheap either.

I dunno. Previous Vet was a big fan of wet food for Cats & Dogs. He said dry food is kind of like a human eating potato chips all the time.
I have always fed both types to our pets.
When our dog had a disc flare up he went on some steroids and pain killers along with low activity.
I was concerned about him putting on too much weight so I eliminated his small amount of dry food. I knew he was having more treats for his various medications and I knew we had him on minimal activity.
Over a few weeks he lost a pound or two.
He was having same amount of wet food, easily twice the treats he normally has and no dry food which is a few ounces of his overall diet. Those few ounces over a few weeks equaled approximately two pounds of weight for him. Our pooch is 30 pounds.
Final doctor visit was “he looks a little thin”

We had an older Lab that we fed home cooked food for probably the last 2 years he lived. Boiled ground beef, fat strained off, rice, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower. Made big batches, starting with 5lb of 90/10 ground beef. He loved it, and it was much easier on his system.

I never cooked my dogs food unless he was sick in which case it was 5 pounds of baked chicken meat and rice. (not all at once!)

I did however used to feed him this stuff which frankly looks and smells considerably better than a lot of canned people-food I've seen! (costs more too lol!)

Geez, those all look considerably better than that Dinty Moore beef stew I ate a lot of when I was kid!.

A good frd does, protein(chicken liver or ground beef or chicken or fish or heart), quinoa, veg(sweet potato or cabbage).

Mix in some dry food.

I am a cat dude and cats are picky they love the highend chicken can cat food which is chicken meat and soup plus other stuff but won't eat the one I cook.

That’s what our cats are like…chicken only, please. They adore any chicken.

Our dogs, on the other hand, get a can of wet in the AM (and they’ve never turned one down), then they can graze the rest of the day on dog chow. Yes, it’s available to the dogs 24/7, just like the cats have. Have yet to have an overweight dog.

And I firmly believe that that’s the case because they’ve been raised with dry food always available, so they end up eating it as they get hungry. Basically, they eat like the cats. Nibble whenever.

One of our favorite food trucks that sell Hibachi dishes with egg fried rice, and veggies plus meat/fish of your choice is frequently at the various breweries in the area offers a dog bowl offering for $3. It is either beef or chicken with the fried rice and veggies.

Our hound dog which we take on occasions loves it. He's face down till it gone. Seriously with a little soy sauce and a fork, I'd eat it.
