I got it for my kids several months ago, and when it works, it works pretty well. This is almost strictly a line-of-sight object, in that the receiver needs to be pointed at the player's upper torso (chest and shouler level) in order to get the best results. The directions had a diagram of the receiver sitting on top of a TV, in which the television was sitting alone on a small TV stand. But, like many other folks, my television set is crowded into a large entertainment center with all the other standard equipment (DVD player, receiver, etc.). There is nowhere in my entertainment center where the receiver could sit directly in front of my kids at their chest/shoulder height. The best we could do was to try to wedge it into one corner off to the side of the TV. With my kids standing about 6 feet from the television, the receiver missed alot of their swings, so the inaccuracy caused some frustration on their parts.
One note: My boys are 8 and 10 years old, and when the game's action sped up, they started swinging quite wildly. If you get this for your kids, make sure they are away from anything breakable when they play.
