I'm thinking between an LCD TV or a projector. I see there are some new projectors with DVI/HDMI connectors, which are HD capable. I'm just curoius if anyone has actually seen HD content played by one. How does it compare to a HD TV???

I have an Infocus 7205 projecting on a 133" diaganol 16:9 screen, resolution is 1280x720.

Amazing picture, but you need to be able to control light in the room. Don't expect great picture quality with all the shades up in the middle of the day.

I have an InFocus 4805 and am in the process of setting up a HT.

The plus of the projectors is screen size-100"+
Minus-lamp needs to be replaced at $300 a pop
you need a light controlled room

LCD's are maintenance free, just depends on how much effort you want to put into it.

The picture from HD capable projectors is incredible. Mine just does EDTV & it's very good.

I have an epson powerlite s1+ and have been very pleased with Epson. It stopped turning on one day, I called epson they were quick, knowledgeable and overnighted me a replacement one for no additional cost.

720 and 1080i look AWESOME!
I have about 100" diagonal, its a Panasonic AE700
If I were in your position, I would go with the Sanyo Z4, same LCD panel as the Epson, just different manufacturer. Check out http://www.projectorcentral.com

what is that material you have taped to the wall? I'm building a HT and I haven't figured out what im doing for a screen... I need sub 100$

projectors are the best HDTV (they always have been the "hidden secret" of HDTV's out there for the $$$ but you have to be able to make the room dark when you want to watch. I have a panasonic AE700 and its awesome. Cant wait to upgrade to the new AE900 or Sanyo Z4.

My own is only ED, but I've seen some HD ones and I have been very impressed by them.

Naturally it's going to depend model by model how things compare, but if you're looking for a big screen on a budget and have a light controlled room, it's a great way to go.

I used a material I bought at Lowes. Its made by Parkland Plastics, and is called Polywall. It was $15, and works GREAT!

I have a 7205 from InFocus, the quality is excellent with HD content. I would advise having a room that is light controlled, the picture is never as good with alot of ambient lighting. If you have a room that's dark enough I would for sure recomend a projector, to be honest I have yet to see any TV that compares with the quality that I get. If you are a big fan of sports nothing can come close to wathcing Hockey or Football in HD on an 8 ft. screen.

Cinch/RCA (Composite), 3x Cinch (Composite), Mini-DIN (S-Video), HDMI B, Optical Digital Audio, D-Sub 15pin... Should make a nice X-mas gift for the family :p

I wouldn't go with that at all!!!!! I would go for a DLP based projector over LCD anyday, DLP is much more enjoyable for home theater settings.

Here is a good article describing the diferences between the twoText

If you read that you understand a bit better now. If you look at the disadvantages to the DLP technology, these are both solved now.

I have a friend who has that exact projector....it's great!!! That would have been my second choice!!!!

If money is a problem then go with the InFocus 4805, very affordable, and it's compared to projectors 2 to 3 times it's cost.

Not really true about LCD's, You need to replace the lamps in them as well, and over time image qaulity degrades greatly.

I love my 4805, but it is EDTV and not true HDTV. My thought process was to get this one first, then when there is enough HD content to justify it, get a new projector. Right now my HD choices are extremely limited (no local at all, DirecTV not an option, and Dish is just lagging in choices).

As others have attested to already, HD FP's are great. Epson's recent offerings have been incredible values for their price. Most people don't know that Epson manufactures most of the LCD panels for the market, save Sony. They were also the inventor of the technology and hold the most patents on it. I don't know the particular model you listed, but go check it out, their FP's are very decent these days.

What's your budget for the projector alone?

Our local bar has one. It looks like about a 100" screen. The picture is quite impressive. Sports look awesome on it, and they have the xbox hooked up to it for some high res lovin too.

It's true you'll need decent lighting conditions but it's nice for a game room or second living area.
