I got rammed last night, and they have Progressive insurance.....
I need body and muffler repairs, and am not sure going to 'their' body shop is the best plan.

If I go to them, I get a rental and a lifetime waranty on the repairs.
If I get a quote elsewhere, I get the independent shop's waranty, and I'm not sure about the rental.

The big money is in soft tissue damage. Scream in pain and walk with a limp to get the grand prize.

i dont think it makes a difference. Lifetime vs your piece of mind. Go with someoen you trust and the quality of work is known

You will get the rental either way. Usually the insurance company will give you a list of shops that they deal with. Not just one. Most of the repair work will be the same no matter where you go (parts/quality).

this is true. i work with a few progressive guys in the same shop. i can confidently say that most shops these days have relatively equal quality in labor and the parts will be the same. the progressive "shops" are good for progressive because they have a lower labor rate, but that doesn't mean the quality isn't good. you should probably talk to the shop guys and feel them out. shops want your business and want their customer's to be happy and thus would want to do good work on your car in hopes for referrals and such. but, if you have a hsop you trust, hit it up. a rental shoud be given no matter where you take it. however, i can say that progressive will be a lot more cooperative in paying for the rental if you use their shop since they have a hand in when the car will be done with repairs since they deal with it.

Thanks for the replies, guys :)
I don't have a 'regular' body shop, but I spoke with the Progressive rep today and asked about any available recourse I had if I wasn't satisfied with the repair. I'm fairly confident about having them do the repairs after talking with her; she explained they'd go over it with me before and after, as well as call me before the repairs to explain what exactly they'd be doing. She further explained that even if I notice a problem with, say, the paint color after a few months that I could contact them and they'd handle it.

Plus, the concensus from above replies indicates that no matter where I go, it's a pretty level field, so I feel pretty comfortable now.

Thanks again :)
