I just mixed up some Louisiana etoufee mix, 5 tbsps. butter, dropped in a pound of shrimp... instant bliss. Served it over rice... Serves 4 easily :D

Probably the best damn meal I have ever made for under $5.

Anybody out there have any inexpensive meal ideas that rock?

Where do you get enough shrimp to feed 4 people for under $5?

I live on the gulf coast... $1.99 per pound.

I live in Wisconsin = no cheap shrimp around here

Your meal sounds really nice for $5.

I live in Louisiana (Northern area), and I never saw Louisiana etoufee mix. Where did you get it?

If its onsale, its cheap to me. avoid ready to cook meals if you are saving money. just buy the stuff you need, mix, cook. taste better, cheaper, and you prolly made more food than what you would have got.

Fantastic price. Even the tiny ones are 6 bucks a pound here.

Johnny's Beef on North Avenue, instant bliss :).

Chicago's great :D.

As for home cooked, a pound of spaghetti, jar of sauce, loaf of bread. They have to all be on sale to stay under $5 though.

If you're in NYC, the "Recession Special" at Gray's Papaya. Two hotdogs and a fruit smoothie for under three bucks... good livin'.

Or I just go to the deli, get a loaf of white bread ($1), 1/3 pound of hard salami ($2) and 1/3 pound of Land-O-Lakes American cheese ($2) and make a bunch of those stacked up sandwiches like they have in the commercials. At least when the blockage builds up for good, I'll die with a smile on my face.

Best food ever. I think I'd rather have the seafood, but man you really can't go wrong either way. When I went down to Eunice for mardi gras they killed the chickens that day and just threw em all in this huge pot and made some DAMN tasty gumbo. Plus crawfish boil the night before and omg a ridiculous amount of alcohol. I wanna get out of Louisiana, but damn ya gotta love it here. :D
