Just came available in my area. $19.95 a month for 6 months + 1 month free with self installation (and you know I will), free use of modem and no start up charges.

Tired of dial up speeds, what do you think? Any experience with Adelphia? Know some of the cable horror stories.

i do, connection is pretty good, above average i'd say

downstream roughly 280-320 here, (southern california), upsteam a meager 12k

the worst part about adelphia powerlink is the way they handle their email/webspace stuff

they don't have automated systems like @home did, they have to add them manually, so it takes forever and they mess up alot (it's been about 12 weeks and i'm still waiting for my 2nd email address)

I have Powerlink at my parent's house and it works alright... it was pretty ass before they upgraded the fiber (about 120 ping to the gateway) but now I ping 10's to the gateway... downloads are good... the only thing might be uptime... my friends in Arcadia always seem to be going down... mine went down a few times too for a few hours... otherwise it's good.

I've had adelphia for a little less than a year now. Exerything sucked until the end of the year when they upgraded their servers. Now I get about 2-3 mbit down, and 128 up (capped). Had downtime for about 5 mins since the upgraded servers. Good value, 128k upload cap sucks.

I have it here in VT, it is decent, at times it craps out, but main problem is with mail, something is always wrong with that. I got better speeds in SoCal with Earthlink DSL. Here on avg I am in the 4-500 range, and yup d/l is capped at 128.

my experiences are similar to the other accounts here....

I would add that their newsgroups suck 4ss

It *was* decent here in Buffalo, but it seems they've been down 1 day a week for the last few weeks. Email and newsgroups sucks balls and the 15K upstream cap is the lamest thing in the world. Their domain lookup isn't great, but you can always use some university's instead.
I get about 400K downstream most times.

Even after the problems, it's worth it to me. I hope I never have to use dial-up again.

Thanks for the answers.

May have to give it a try. Fortunate for me I dont care much about email or newsgroups so it may work out. Anything better than dial up as long as it isnt down all the time.
