Anybody from the PA/NJ/NY area?

im looking for some good camping recommendations for this year. somewhere with good fishing - and not with some little 10 acre lake.

I've gone camping in the Pine Barrens in NJ a few times. It's pretty nice.

Drive to VA, George Washington National Forest.

prince galitzen (spelling) is one of the better parks in central pennslylvania. Its between altoona and johnstown.
nice 10 mile horseshoe lake with boat rental, fishing, swimming, lots of camp grounds, and plenty of nearby amish shops.

The 7,335-acre Prince Gallitzin State Park is in the scenic Allegheny Plateau Region of Pennsylvania. Large portions of the park can be seen from several easily accessible vistas. The major attractions to the park are the 1,635-acre Glendale Lake with 26 miles of shoreline and the large campground.

Wharton State Forest/Pine Barrens in NJ, plenty of camping

That's the only one I know of. There's a Lebanon State Park right across from my parent's neighborhood, the state forest. But for fishing, I don't know, I've never tried.

Where you going to camp in New Jersey, behind a factory? I suggest driving north to Northern NY or even Canada.

we go fishing here once in awhile...it is nice. never camped though.

this is a common misconception about nj. we are a very lucky state. for those of us in the northeast or central part of nj, we are close to the greatest city on earth - but yet driving 40 miles west or south we start getting into things like the appalachian trail and very rural/nature areas.

NJ is the most dense state only because of the NY metro area. we got it all here.

Aside from TV shows that make it look like all of New Jersey look like the outskirts of NYC, the reality is that NJ has plenty of open space. The Pine Barrens area is huge. North Jersey is mountainous and has a lot of wildlife. It's really only the areas near NYC and Philly that are very industrial.

Not a fisher myself, although we always see people on the lake fishing. We go more for the hiking and the waterfalls. Not to mention it is a damn clean park.

And contrary to what Harold and Kumar made you believe, there is no cliff anywhere near Cherry Hill.

I love driving down the roads and seeing the farms, horses, everything.
